Is atheism a bad PR move for people in the spot light?

I recently noticed that there are no celebrities, TV/Radio personalities (other than shock jocks maybe), or sports figures who openly admit to being atheists so it makes me wonder if claiming to be an atheist in Hollywood is considered taboo and a bad PR move. I guess it's kind of like gay celebrities who won't admit they're gay.

Things are doing a turn around. Let's wait and see. With books such as Dawkins' and Sam Harris' gaining popularity, things are looking bright for atheists; spot light-wise. Shows like Jon Stewart's and Bill Maher's are raking even.

It's a death sentence in politics, too. The only 'out' atheist is a California congressman in a safe district. The only people who won't vote for him because he's an atheist are already not voting for him for other reasons.

Not a lot of them are open about any other religion, either. The only one I ever hear about in Hollywood is Scientology. I think with any public figure it is that they project a certain public image and don't want to share everything.

atheism is like being gay; because Xtians think we are going to hell. When the majority of the populaiton in the U.S is Christian, being labled as a sinner that's goign straight to hell, dosn't really get you a lot of fans or fame.

I haven't heard too many talking about God either. Then again, I don't pay much attention to Hollywood. My life is full enough without that garbage.

People are simply not tolerant of atheism.
