I record a lot of TV shows (around 100 one hour shows into 25 DVD-RW's every month) I first bought an Insignia DVD/VCR combo, but after only 4 months of usage, it no longer works properly. I have been told that most DVD recorders can only record a couple of hundred times before the hardware can no longer record properly. is this true? if so, is there a high end or "heavy use" dvd recorder out there? any links to where i can buy it or find more information on this specific question? I would hopefully consider a dvd recorder or dvd/vcr combo option, and not any option involving a computer. I appreciate any advice anyone can give me. =0)

I purchased a panasonic DVD recorder for $300 which crapped out after two years.
Then i picked up a $99.00 Magnavox at Walmart that records better than my old Panasonic and it is still going strong .
With Consumer Electronics there is not much of a guarantee that they will last forever.
Your best bet would be to get a nice expensive model and a cheaper model for a backup .
I plan on buying another Magnavox to keep in the closet in case the DVD recorder suddenly dies on me .

The motor in these recorder/player aren't really meant to run constant. Get a upper class machine with extended warrany. I would just get another one if it starts to crap out. There are industry heavy duty ones but those will cost you $1000+. I wouldn't recommend SONY to anyone. Pioneer products are well made, I still have my Pioneer LD player which is about 15 years old, still kicking like the day I bought it. I also bought one of the early Pioneer progressive scan DVD player that plays well after 8 years. In fact the Pioneer dvd player plays the burned disc when other 6 player I had all crapped out.

I would suggest one of the sony models. They make a great dvd recorder that lasts really well. Insignia is best buys own brand and its pretty cheap stuff.
