Too long.
{sigh} Nothing raises more false hope than the first 4 hours of a diet...
The real answer is -- it depends. It depends on how big you are. If you are really big it might take several weeks before you can SEE a change. You might notice your clothes are felling looser, but no one else will notice.
If you are already small and still want to get thinner, perhaps no one will ever really notice. YOU might feel fat, but others think you are fine and they probably won't notice -- unless you get TOO thin.
The best, safest way to lose weight is slowly. Losing 1 or 2 pounds a week is best. It seems to take FOREVER, but honestly, before you know it you will need a whole new wardrobe!
Good luck.

Guys typically lose weight faster than women. The first week you should lose 4-5 lbs and then about 2 lbs a week after that. How much are you trying to lose? I've went on binge diets when I was an active team athlete and I used to be a sprinter in track, so I would load up on laxatives (bad idea) and diet pills (another bad idea) and lose A LOT way too fast. I was in such good shape that I could compensate for the quick, fast weight loss, but at the same time, someone else could be in a serious health jam if they do it. Just take your time and eat right, drink lots of water, stay away from junk foods, eat lots of fibers--wheat, salads, etc.--and exercise. You should see the loss in your face, first. It'll take 2-4 weeks to notice.

pick up a 5 or 10 pound weight at the gym and visualize that weight coming off holding the weight in your hands helps bring home just how heavy even 5 pounds of extra fat can be
