You will find nearly all day to day items will be fine. Like web browsing, email, even documents, pictures, etc (use open office you can even read all the MS Office stuff) but there are things that will not run natively under linux.. like Quickbooks and other windows only games etc.

If its Linux based software it will run fine. And most anything you can do on a windows machine you can do better on a Linux machine.

You might even find that what you want to do runs faster.

The web works fine on Linux.

the setup file u use for windows is of format ".exe" or executable Its windows specific. Linux uses diff files for installin applications. But there is something called "WINE" thro which u MAY BE able to install ur windows application in Linux. But not all windows apps r compatible. The good thing is Linux itself has lots of applications equivalent to the one in windows mostly for free like openoffice for MS office. And few companies ve their linux version of application like nero and Mozilla.
In my opinion, For Linux environment, Applications no problem u ve lots available But GAMES hmmm there r not much available
