While I think we can all agree that entering the US w/o permission is illegal, are all instances of this crime the same?

Is someone who immigrated illegally 30 or 20 years ago the same as someone who came across last week?
Is someone who was brought to the US as a small child the same as someone who came of their own free will?

Should there be a statute of limitations on illegally immigrating?

Should there be a sliding/conditional scale when considering someone's status?

Just curious.....

i don't think kids should be held acountable because they are KIDS. and i don't care if they are now 18 either. you try being brought here at 2 yrs old and then as soon as you get out of your parents house saying, "well, guess i'll move back to the country i've never even been too!" that's rediculous. if you were brought here by someone else originally...that was NOT your doing.

adults who came on their own free will...they broke the law. need to go back.

as far as the immigrants that have been here for 30 years....i think that's sort of laziness really. during the reagan administration, illegal immigrants had the chance to get their papers. i don't know why they didn't take care of it then.

No, because there are special breaks given to some people, such as Cubans. They leave their country, claim it is because of political persecution which is a stinking lie, and they can stay and get a green card as long as their foot touches dry land in this country. they wait 1 year and 1 day and they can apply and get a green card in less time than people who applied and waited their turn. THEY get jumped by these people which is totally unfair.
If someone was here illegally 20-30 years ago, they will probably be legal now because of the amnesty of the mid 80's.
A child brought here illegally is treated the same way as if they came here of their own free will which is totally unfair to them.
The sliding scale already exists but it is just for Cubans because there is a huge voting block in South florida which the Republican party capitalizes on. All they do is bend over backwards and then say " Castro is evil, vote Republican and we will let them stay even though they are not being politically persecuted". they get paroled into the community and can go and work from day 1.

Anyone who is found in the country, no matter where, when , or how long, illegally should be promptly be deported.
There should be no statue of limitations. I will also say that our elected official failed to secure the border after the amnesty of 1986 , but the American people can't or won't make the connection. They sold out this country for cheap labor and pass the bill to the American people

The gov. is to blame for this mess and it really gets to me.They should've been enforcing this for years.Of course its hard to deport someone who has been here for 20 years but the law is the law and they knew what they were getting into.Deporting someone after 20 years is like giving someone a mansion for 20 years and then say I'm taking it away, now heres your trailer home.

Really, no. But it brings to mind another question...Why don't we get out a map, erase the Mexican border, and divide Mexico into four or five sections and call it the 51st through 55th States? Then we force them to obey the Constitution and all is solved.
