I am full sleeved on my right arm, from wrist to bicep. It wasn't just something I jumped into. It took alot of time and sittings. I would do it again in a heart beat. I also know it's not something for everyone, and that is totally ok.
I think far as the full or 1/2 sleeve that is a personal decision, as long as you are comfortable with that choice, GO FOR IT !
and wear em with pride !!!

If this is your first tattoo that would be like jumping in the 12ft section of the pool while you still had your water wings. Don't get me wrong, I love tattoos & have 7 including two 1/4 sleeves. But there's no rush. Start small with an oriental design that can be a component of something larger if the you still have the itch but which will stand alone as a distinctive piece of skin art in its own right. Full sectional coverage is nothing to jump into. Take it slow, have fun and above all know what you're doing. Good luck!

Personally, being female I don't want to have any tattoos that will really show when I have "regular" clothes on. I have a palm size tattoo (flowers and butterflies) on my left breast which vaguely follows the same line that a v neck shirt would. The larger tattoo on my back is inside the line of where a sleeveless shirt would be. The third and smallest is on my right hip.
My advice is not to have a tattoo that later on in life might cause you embarassment or keep you from presenting a professional work image. That means no "sleeves". But if you really "need" to have a sleeve type tat, I'd go for the half (upper) sleeve that could be covered by a short sleeve shirt.

Half sleeve! you can have the best of both worlds lol you can cover them up when you dont want to stand out too much or flaunt those tattoos when you feel like it :D

Do whatever feels right for you and the design you want. None of us know you so our opinion doesn't really matter does it? If you will be in an environment where you need to cover it up, just make sure you can. You can't exactly do it all in one sitting anyway, so start out with a half and go from there. Good luck!

maybe you could start off with a half sleeve and if you want more a while down the road then you can add to it...
