I don't believe its true, but does anyone have info on valium beign derived from valerian root?

They are molecularly different drugs/chemicals. They are not even in the same drug family. However it is true that valerian works the same way as valium on the brain. Valerian works on the GABA receptor complex and so does Valium so yes they work the same way. Valerian is less potent and thus less addicting. Logic would say that if you took high enough doses for a long enough time that your body could become addicted to valerian but it would probably be a mild rebound/withdrawal compared to the hardcore problems seen with prescription sedative drugs like valium.

The two medicines use the same root words since they produce similar results. Both Valerian and Valium produce a relaxation , drowsy effect in human. Valerian is an herbal root that you do not need a prescription. Valium is a controlled medication that you need a prescription.

no, they have similar properties, but i didnt see anything on the 2 actually being related or that valium is sourced from valerian root. i did find a link that said they were not related, and that its just coincidence that the names r similar

no. valium is not derived from valerian. but they have similar mechanisms of action
