True Christians--not just the bad actors who claim to follow Christ but whose lives are nothing like Christ's life--go to heaven. Those who reject Christ will go to hell. But not everyone who claims to be a Christian really is a follower of Christ. Those who reject Christ go to hell--including those who, like the self-righteous in Jesus' day, thought they were following God but instead they were telling God how to run things. I think the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector in Luke 18:9-14 pretty well sums it up:
To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about [or to] himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'
"But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'
"I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Athesist still go to hell and Christian go to heaven. The reason being atheist dont believe in God. Believing in God is the first step toward Christianity. The second part is believing God sent His Son to die for our sins and unbelief, if we will repent(turn away) from our sins

I personally believe that you go to the afterlife you believe in.
I keep having this reocurring thought of a big queue of people and a person at the front desk figuring out where they go... "Mr. Johnson? Ah yes of course well it says here you're Hindu... well let's see you can go over to the reincarnation line over there and they should be able to help you"...

Every human being who has ever lived or ever will live will spend eternity either in heaven or in hell. These are the only eternal destinations of human beings.

I'm an atheist, but I believe in reincarnation. Hell for me is well, nothing. But it would suck if I turned out something... weird... in a future life.
