My hair is so fragile when I use a conditioner, and it causes alot of it to come out. However, when I skip it my hair does not break as bad. What do you think?

Definately not. A conditioner seals in moisture along the hair folicle. Without it your hair will definately break off. You are probably being rough with your hair when applying the conditioner. Remember your hair is at its most vulnerable when it is wet because the folicles swell making them easy to break. My advice, do not comb the hair until your are ready to blow dry and even then use a wide tooth comb.

I wonder what conditioner you're using to cause it to act like that. Usually African American hair requires extra conditioning, especially if it's relaxed. Even when you don't use a conditioner, is your hair dry and brittle? Do you need a conditioner at all? I would try a lighter conditioner (not with extra moisturizing properties) first before abandoning conditioners all together.

Alternatively, you could do without the conditioner and use leave-in conditioners that you apply after drying your hair. You don't want to go without any moisturizing, and leave-ins could help.

I rarely use conditioner cause it adds chemicals to my thin hair and can make it even oilier faster. But when I do, I use Alberta VO5 as it's some of the better stuff - and its cheap. If you have problems with your hair going crazy, you can use a different hair-dryer that cuts down on frizz, or some hairsprays help cut that down if you spray it just before you dry your hair. But it's also normal to lose a lot of hair, some shed more than others, I know I shed a lot but I still have a lot of hair. Brush your hair right before you shower, and finger comb it before you dry. Don't rub your hair in the towel and make sure you don't tangle it too much while shampooing. Odd as it sounds, the more you brush your hair, the less you lose, because your hair isn't getting tangled. Also, shorter hair doesn't tangle as much as long hair. Just a few options for you (and if you have long hair and decide to get it cut, please consider donating to Locks of Love if you get enough cut off).

Well, actually, when you shampoo your hair, your hair opens and lets all the dirt, bacteria, ect. out. If you condition your hair, it will close back up. I guess if you apply condtioner every other day or every other two days, your hair will turn out fine... but, you will want to apply conditioner at least 2-3 times a week if possible. Hope that helps. :)

I would try a different brand of conditioner. that doesn't sound normal. have you tried this stuff called Pink? my friend uses the lotion and it makes her hair soft like conditioner does. when she does use shampoo and conditioner, she likes pantene. I know if you go to sallys beauty supply those girls can help you as well. I hope you have one nearby you

It is ok not to use conditioner. All it does is make your hair softer and a little less tangled.
