It means Mosque or Muslim house of worship. Non arabic speakers can say Masjid without actually saying Mosque.

This is a case debated in my Indian town and I thing in many other places also. The ordinary Sunnis they say that Khutba must be in Arabic as two Khutba stands for two Rakaas of mid-day prayer and Prophet made Khutba only in Arabic. The otherside those who take on to Hadith, (Salafis) they say Khutba must be in the native language as there are no Hadith asking strictly in which the language of Khutba should be delivered. Also Allah says in the Holy Quran that no Prophet was sent to their people except in their own tounges. That means a Prophet spoke in the toungue of their men and the way people understands. The correct view I have got asking from scholars is that the major parts of Friday Khutba should be in Arabic. The Hamd (The Praising of Allah), The Salat (Blessings upon Prophet (pbuh) etc. Rest the subject can be in any language and based on Islamic topics that will unite and keep up the faith of people. The scholar also told me this is the view of the earlier Scholars as Imam, Shafi, Abu Hanifa (R.A). Allah knows best.

I think it means a place of worship.
The city of Madrid Spain is named as a derivative of Masjid. However Arabs moved the Capitol to a city now named Cordova, after a Kalif whose name sounded like cordova.
Spain was conquered and occupied by Arabs for 750 years. Many spanish words are deriving from Arabic.
