The talking snake from Babylonian Mythology?

The gods of the Canaanite tribes, like Ba'el?

The Satan in the Book of Job, who seems awfully chummy with God and apparently hangs out in heaven whenever he feels like dropping by?

The Lucifer hybrid story, which is actually an ancient Mediterranean story about the planet Venus, combined with the Latin translation creating the name Lucifer?

The Egyptian mischief god, Set, whom most stories about Satan are derived from, at least the sane ones that cast him as a sort of Mediterranean Loki? Even the name Satan is taken from Set.

The Beast/666/Anti-Christ? That's just cryptic nonsense about Roman Emperors after the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE.

Mephistopheles/The Devil/Satan from Dante's Inferno?

Or the modern American incarnation who is all red with horns?

Do you people realize how much of this comes directly from fiction?

Do you really believe all of this patchwork nonsense amounts to anything real?

Satan has no definite appearance my friend. All those pictures and images are from people's own perspective of what he looks like. Satan used to be one of God's angels who tried to rally some other angels to take over God's Heaven. We, as Christians, know that the devil may not be red with horns or slither around on his belly or any of that caricatured stuff but we do know that he is somebody that will tempt you to sin if you do not walk in the light of the Lord.

I always really liked those daevas in Zoroastrianism the best. Those little bastards! I agree about the beast - obviously a ref to Nero or Zeno or whatever his name was. Patchwork quilt? All religious belief is intrinsically syncretic. So what's wrong with that? You scientists don't like anything but a clean lab and a cage full of rats. It would be a colorless world with non-believers in charge. orderly yes, more just, well I don't know. practical, absolutely. But really really sterile.

South Park's version of Satan appeals to me, although I wouldn't peg myself a Christian.

Is ridicule of Christians your purpose in life? I bet Christians are becoming pagans in droves because of you.
