I have a 3 month old darling westie puppy. She pees quite often and I am beginning to worry. The vet said for me to give her 1 ounce of water per her weight.

I am concerned because of the kidney problems caused by some dog foods. My puppy eats Eukanaba dry lamb and rice puppy food.

Is there something out there that one would recommend that would be safer?

Merrick pet food is one of the only foods that does not outsource its manufacturing needs. They own their own plant in the US and they are not part of the recall. Many companies had tricked us into believing that their food was "premium" when in fact, it was being manufactured the same as cheap store brands. Eukanuba really isn't a great food and I certainly wouldn't trust them after the recall even if they "claim" that their dry isn't affected. Please check out Merrick- its super high quality and the pets LOVE it.

Compare the ingrediants in Merrick to those in Eukanuba- you will see that Eukanuba is FILLED with cheap filler ingredients such as corn. Do some research into dog nutrition on the web and you will find some great info about what to feed your dogs.

Also, if you're worried that you pup is peeing too much, you can get her a kidney test at the vet which usually only runs about $50. But like others said, puppies do pee a lot. Their bladders are still too small to hold much.

It's not unusual for puppies to wee a LOT, you often need to take them out to potty every 30 mins to an hour. Small breeds especially have tiny bladders which don't hold much! If you still feel that she's 'going' more than normal (and you probably know what 'normal' is for her) you can ask your vet to check for a urine infection. That's not unusual either in female puppies, again especially small ones who are low to the ground when they wee. As for dog food, there's a lot of good ones out there and a lot of conflicting information - you need to concentrate on finding a reputable brand that has a good source of protein as it's first ingredient (chicken, lamb, chicken meal or lamb meal are all OK). Make sure the bag has the wording 'a complete and balanced diet' , this means the food is AAFCO approved and has undergone feeding trials. Small dogs have small tummies and a faster metabolism than larger breeds. They do best with small, frequent meals and an energy-dense food.

The Eukanuba brand is an excellent food especially lamb and rice formulat (great for the smaller breeds with allergy problems)...some dry dog foods were on the recall but mainly your low cost, less nutritious dog foods were. Puppies can't hold their bladder for very long, so it is common to see frequent urination. If you have doubts, ask your vet to run a general health panel (blood work) this will test her liver and kidney values. If the bloodwork comes back normal, then you will at least have a baseline for bloodwork in case if she ever does get sick or develops further problems.

For one, you NEED to go to the vet! Although I doubt this would be cause by the adult food, the abrubt change of food could be giving her a bad stomache ache. But I seriously doubt that. Something is wrong with your puppy and she needs help. I STRONGLY suggest you do not feed pedigree. It is a horrible food. Science Diet is the lowest food I would ever recomend, and even that is iffy in my mind

Puppies ALWAYS pee a lot... at least 10 times a day=) Don't worry a bit. Also, cut off her water supply around 6 pm.
