Yesterday, I was falsely arrested for forgery of a bad check & I got out today on no bail because the court judge told me I was charged & arrested by mistake. What happened was I was trying to sell a camcorder so I can help pay for my college school supplies, & a guy disguising himself as a woman scammed me by overpaying me on a bad check & then told me to Western Union him back the difference of what I was selling the camcorder for & the overpayment. I didn't know because I thought it was a legitimate business check. The police MISunderstood & thought I was the one who wrote a bad check.

I think the reason most people believe that police officers are always right is because the foundation of our society depends on it. If you have no faith in the police department or the government, then what do you have? Don't get me wrong, I trust no one, but most people are taught from elementary school that police officers, firemen, and public officials are the good guys. As far as the false arrest, unfortunately it happens more than we think....I'm sorry you had to endure that.

It's not about being perfect, people make mistakes that's human nature. Do you know how many people pull that scam, lots. In many cases the stores get left holding the check. The police didn't know if you were part of the scam or just the one being scammed that is why they arrested you.

The scam that got you is a very common one on places like eBay or Craiglist.

People watch too much fiction TV, where networks portray cops as shining knights. (excuse me while I barf)

They don't watch the news or read the papers that recount police misconduct or high crime.

Well, schemes like you have described are out there by the thousands and thousands of people have lost millions of dollars on such schemes. The police were right to hold you for questioning.

You, on the other hand, need to not involve yourself in commerce until you understand the basics like when to take a check and when not to...... What you did was very dumb but can be excused because you are young...keep in mind that scammers look for young and dumb people to get over on....
