It is an argument against the existence of God(s). It claims that the universe and life contain inefficient traits and poorly designed features, therefore an all-powerful God did not create them.

That would only attack some of the attributes of the typical god of theism. It is not an argument against the existence of an imperfect divine being(s).

A presumptive argument at best.

There are at least 2 things immediately apparent that are faults of this argument:
1) This assumes that God intended to create physically perfect beings. This is not the case, since we find that God intends man to be dependent, not independent. This was driven forcefully home after the fall.
2) This presupposes that they can suggest a better method of accomplishing point one.

Certainly, any engineering design student will tell you that an engineer does not seek absolute perfection in a given design, but the best set of tradeoffs that accomplish the purpose. If we do not assume that God was after physically perfect beings, but after beings well suited to the environment in which they live, can YOU do a better job?

Couldn't this be countered by simply saying that God was performing an experiment by giving certain species crappy lots in life and seeing how they reacted to their situation?

God or gods do NOT exist. Of course I can't disprove their existence but hey, so far, no evidence whatsoever, so for now, it's all bogus. Though I bet it will always be bogus, not just for now.
