I asked this question for atheists "Would you rather be best friends with a witty/fun Christian or a boring/smart atheist?" and I was curious how the other side thinks. Just to clarify, this is a hypothetical. I don't think atheists are necessarily funny and I don't think Christians are necessarily boring.

By "necessarily" I mean I honestly don't think there's a correlation.

I'm getting the same resistance as the other question. It's a hypothetical.
The Christian has a very high IQ but is not an interesting person to talk to. They may say intelligent things from time to time, but interaction is not actively enjoyable.
Let's make the atheist have an average IQ but they can quote comics off the top of their head and always has fun one-liners that apply to almost every situation. And that person likes to have fun.
This scenario can exist, which person would you choose as a best friend.

I noticed pattern.
1. **MOST** atheists would choose a witty/fun Christian over a boring/smart atheist while **MOST** Christians would choose a boring/smart Christian over a witty/fun atheist.
It seems like personality is more important to atheists while beliefs are more important to Christians when it comes to interacting with people. Now, that's kind of a stretch (it's not equal to the questions I have asked), but it seems like that is what is implied.
2. An atheist is okay leaving a Christian to be Christian, but a Christian is more likely to try to convert the atheist. This seems mainly because a Christian wouldn't want their best friend to go to hell, while an atheist doesn't have the added pressure of worrying for their friend's immortal soul so they are less likely to press the issue of religion and free to just have a good time. This can be a burden to Christians with an atheist friend, except that it is a burden of love and doing God's work, so I think it makes them happy.

"a" pattern, "a"... before someone starts comparing me to a Neanderthal... which would be strange in a Christian forum :)

That's kind of hard to choose. I am a christian so I would like to think I would rather be best friends with a boring/smart christian; someone who I can learn from if I need information (or better yet if I go on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, he or she can be one of my life lines.) but, on the other hand I love to have fun, so being with someone who is witty and fun would be great. I would hope and pray that I could change the atheist's mind and he or she will accept Christ as his or her personal savior. I don't believe in begging someone to change their opinions and their beliefs, one day we will all know the truth.

Well, this is an interesting question. I have both kinds of friends actually. My best friend and roomate is a hard core atheist, but makes me laugh like none other. I don't necessarily lump intelliegence with being boring though. I think the the smart/boring person could challenge me in my faith, and what I believe. If I am only around those who make me laugh, but who do not spur me on in personal growth, then I gain nothing in the end. I believe there is one truth, one God, and only one way to eternal life (through Jesus Christ), but when people ask me why I believe this, I better be ready with a response otherwise what is the point? I need to be challenged by Christians and non Christians alike.

Speaking as a Christian, both have advantages.
Firstly, you can learn from any intelligent person. Intelligence is given by God and must be respected. I would enjoy listening and learning from anyone--MOST especially a Christian, because fellow Christians have so much to teach one another.
The witty/fun atheist has some qualifiers, however. What do you mean by "witty"? If "witty" means "mock God at every chance," then no, i don't suppose he would be a particularly fun person to have around. That does not mean that i could not relate to such a person, but it is difficult to have yourself ceaselessly insulted. I have a boss like this, and i try to be his friend, but he is immature and difficult. Ever since he learned i was Christian, he has made me his personal whipping girl.
If it doesn't involve mocking, i would hope i would definitely be such a person's friend. I know i am not as fun a person as most people (i enjoy hanging out with old fogies), and i am not as good a person as many others, but i would like to have a chance to talk and get to know such a person. I am friends with many people like this already, and we enjoy asking one another questions about Faith and the like.
If Christians cannot be friends with atheists, let alone "witty/fun" atheists, how will such people ever know the Lord?

I'm an Atheist, so I guess the question is reversed, and we will assume the Christian is average intelligence.
I think I would choose the Christian as best friend as long as I can have some intelligent conversations, but I'd still get along with the intelligent Atheist because I'd like to learn things from him and exchange ideas.

As much as I love wit and humor in anyone, I'd have to go with the Christian. There are some things that I can only share with someone who has the same belief system that I do.
Most of the Christians that I know are witty and fun, so it's really a moot point, anyway.

Casual friends: Fun people. Atheists, hindu, whatever.
Best friend: Boring smart christian. Would be able to talk about deep things with, not just chit chat. About the spiritual side of life.

It depends on the type of person they are:
I WALK FUNNY is an Atheist, but I prefer them to *ugh* fireball226, and she's a "Christian."
Religion isn't the deciding factor in who my friends are- their heart condition is.
So I vote the witty/fun Atheist- I don't handle boredom too well. That's why I'm always on Y!A

The atheist, simply because the Christian choice has "boring" in it. Who wants to be best friends with a boring person?

As a matter of fact, I am friends with all four of these types. Fun/boring atheists and fun/boring Christians. All of them are different, but each adds something to my life.

Both, I have alot in common with a Christian and if I witness to the atheist I might make a believer out of him/her.
