It certainly seems they favor certain drivers

Well, I think you're right in the fact that they do favor certain drivers. Examples: Gordon- late waving caution flag until he took the lead, phantom cautions for some to make up laps, I could go on and on. However, I think it would be pretty hard to totally manipulate the outcome. There are too many things that can go wrong- mechanical errors, wrecks, etc.

I think that to a degree they could try and help a driver that is down a lap by throwing a caution flag or give a driver a speeding penalty but I don't believe that they do it. I mean who's to say that those drivers that they 'helped' aren't going to have a flat or get in a crash or what have you. NO, I truly don't believe that Nascar would do it. All of those 'so-called' fans out there that are crying about certain drivers getting all of the breaks from Nascar need to get off it. Just look at the way this sport has been in the past few years. A couple of years ago the Roush camp was dominating and last year RCR was right there every race and now the Hendricks camp has it going on. Does this mean that they were a bunch of cheaters or that Nascar was giving them the races? NO, those teams did their homework a little better that the others did. Some teams hit on a set-up before the next but the others always seem to catch up. If your driver is doing great it's OKAY but if they are not, then someone has to be CHEATING.

JUST MY OPINION!!!

Just how long do you think you could jerk around 43 men and have them come back week after week to race if it were manipulated? While NASCAR as an orgainzation certainly seems to have some favorites, with the explosive temperaments of some of the drivers, how long do you think they'd stand for it if it WERE manipulated? I can see how some well placed cautions could benefit certain drivers, when the green flag is out, I really don't know how you can control what happens. The maniuplation could really only occur under other than green conditions and with the inspection process - but that's a whole 'nuther discussion for a different day.

It favors the teams and drivers that are prepared. It's no different than when you were in school. The people who studied and were prepared always aced the test. Those who didn't study failed and accused the others of cheating. Most Nascar fans have become so fickle. If someone is winning then they must be cheating. If someone is not winning they are at a disadvantage. All this talk of Nascar fixing races is just stupid. It's hard to believe that 42 other drivers would go out there if they knew they wouldn't win.

Any race or sporting event can be fixed.NASCAR is no exception.
In the 60's Curtis Turner questioned NASCAR to the point he was suspended. He got reinstated and run another couple of years all because there was a younger driver named Petty who was winning everything.
So are events fixed?I said it weeks ago that if Gordon tied Earnhardt he would break Earnhardts record at Talladega(where Earnhardt had won 10 races most of any driver).
Jeff tied at Phoenix, from the pole at a track he never won at before. And broke Seniors record at Talladega, from the pole.
Coincident?Fixed?Manipulated?Scripted?Skill?Luck?
Take your pick something was not good about this win.

They certainly can manipulate things, but I do not think they do it to help certain drivers or teams... They throw competition cautions when things get boring, not specifically to aid one driver... I don't feel like they do it to manipulate things, just for a more competitive and enjoyable race, but it certainly effects the outcomes...

Yes, Nascar can and does manipulate events during races. From phantom debris cautions to mysterious speeding penalties there are ways to change the running order.

I don't think they can manipulate the outcome, but they may be trying to intesify the finish. Some of those late cautions are questionable, but I haven't seen any particular driver consistently put in a better position to win because of it.

yes, definetly. all it takes is a debris caution or oil on the track to close the field up and give the better cars that are in the back a chance to make up ground while the front cars are slowed. nascar does it all the time. 15 to go, uh oh, theres debris in turn 4, caution is out. that takes out the suspense of who was running low on fuel.

YESSSSSSSSSSS...look at the last 2 races...cautions that favored Jeffie...others were penalized at Phoenix but not Jeffie...forward to last week, once again a caution, rutimann id smoking bad inside the car, and NASCAR waits to throw the caution until Jeffie took the lead???
