I think it depends on your future plans. If you plan on moving to Israel for good, then I recommend joiing the army first. If you plan on staying in the US then I think you should consider going to college first, although I could see several advantages to joining the Israeli army before you go to college:
1) Your commitment, at most, is only 2 years, which isn't sooo much time if you think about it.
2) You might feel a personal level of satisfaction/obligation to serve Israel.
3) Your experience in the army, especially if you become an officer, will look tremendous later on when you apply for jobs and schools as it will give you real life experience and leadership experience.
4) It will give you time to decide exactly what you want to do when you finish the army.
5) You might have some technical training in the army that could come in very handy in the future. Many successful people in Israel's hi-tech industry, for example, began their relevant education in hi-tech related fields during their army service.

Good luck with whatever you decide!!

If you go to college first, I think that will cause issues. For one, you'll be in your 20's when you enter the army, a good 3/4 years older than everyone else, and probably even older than your commanding officer. Also, you would have to take a year or so break between college and grad school, which might not be easy. Last thing is, if you go to college in the states you'll never make it to Israel to serve in the army. It just won't happen. You'll have a life and friends and so on and so forth and you just won't. You'll get into your life and you'll continue it. On the other hand, if you do army first things aren't neccessarily so much better. For one, you might not get a good position, meaning you can end up feeling like you're wasting your life when you could be going to college. You'll enter college a year or two older (which in truth isn't that big a deal) but depending on your service you can enter much more mature with no stomach for young people shenanigans. Many college students on not mature, and it seems the most classic college experiences are doing un-mature things. There's a good chance you'd miss out on that, depending on what you do. Also, just like there's a chance you might not want to leave after college, you might not want to leave after the army. The army is kind of a right of passage for people, and having completed it and being embraced by Israeli society you may choose to stay.
There is a third option but it probably isn't right for you. There's an army program where first you go to University and then you serve an extended service after you graduate, serving with the skills you have acquired. However this is only applicable if you know what you want to do for the rest of your life, you want to learn in an Israeli university and you're interested in realistic useful subjects like sciences or law (and not English or literature or any of the less useful subjects from the army's point of view). I doubt you'll be interested but this question is about information.
I guess my suggestion is that if you really want to serve in the army, then do it now. If not, than either you won't end up doing it, or if you do, you won't enjoy yourself and you'll feel like you're wasting your life.

I'm in the same situacion as you lol, why dont you volenteer at the army for one year, and then go to college. This way, you can still go to college at a normal age, but also feel that you helped. then if you want you can go back to the army after college, but you dont have to. Hope i helped!

I think you should do the army service first, if its important to you.
If you'll go to college first you probably won't go to the army later (for the same reasons people have mentioned here).

Good luck with that. Given the hatred that all others in your region seem to have for you, the Israeli army is the last place I'd wanna be.

I would recommend for you to go to college first.

The Israeli army has plenty of young men that can serve in combat positions.

what they really need is educated leaders.

Army first.
Because it's easier to train someone who is ...I don't want to say stupid but ...well more ply-able.
And if (god for bid) you get hurt your parents wont have to pay for college that was wasted on you.

College first! definatly! Education is key to everything in life!

And if anyone gives you crap about being israeli don't listen to them, because half of them don't know what they're talking about, israel is part of the american allies.

Before applying anywhere, be sure to spell the word "college" correctly (ref. your headline).
