Rape happens everywhere to anyone and you would be naive to think otherwise. The military is no different, there maybe a less % than the outside but it happens!

Wow! who has been passing on these "urban Military legends"?!!, that garbage, I think you'll find rape is far less in the military services than in college life or other lifestyles. The military is hard on there own on any such crimes, any branch is a safe as the other, I don't know who told you these bizarre stories, but thats just nonsense, it could happen, it has happened, but very rare, and I do mean rare. you can research that info on the web, compare it to the rape ratio at colleges (thats the worst place for it to happen). there is much accountability in the Military, and sexual harassment is a much watch issue in prevention and punishment. YOur friend will be fine, talk to some women soldiers, not just 2 or three former ones with chips on there shoulders or axes to grind, go to a post or base and ask around, military people are like anyone else, they'll talk to you, and the vast majority don't have much negative to say, thats why they volenteered, and re-enlistments are high.

Yes, women get raped. But that isn't Army only. It happens in all branches. Funny thing though. It happens at the clubs to civilians... oh and at work sometimes. I've even heard of women being raped by total strangers while jogging in the park.

Unfortunately, it's a crime that happens regardless of what clothes you wear to work.

And if it didn't happen in the military, there wouldn't be such a push to get the information out. It happens THAT is why there is so much attention given to prevention in the military.

I was in the Navy for 4 years and I'm now in the Army. I've never been raped by any of my fellow sailors or soldiers.

No. There are rogues that circulate against humanity yet they're quickly ferreted out and dealt with as a effect. a expert militia such by fact the British, French, Australian, American, etc., does no longer tolerate certainly one of those habit of their very very own ranks. Humanity many times does no longer tolerate certainly one of those habit. Prisons are crammed with such parasites. I even have extra appreciate for drug sellers than I do people who could intentionally seek for and harm toddlers. My very own opinion is that rape and any crime regarding a baby must be an computerized loss of existence penalty. by skill of that I propose some 50 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous pervert messing around with 10 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous women. no longer 2 youngsters having intercourse the place one is 17 and the different is eighteen.

If anything there is a less chance of her getting raped in the military than in the civilian world.
Men and women of the military are held to the highest of standards both professional and personal. Unfortunately there are rapes that occur in the military but are on a far less occurrence than in any other part of the world.

I'm sorry for being so rude but I have to say this.
1st. I never use yahoo questions and came across this through a google search, but i felt I had to make a account to reply to this.

2nd. Are you a idiot? She has more a chance being raped walking down the street then in joining the military you dumass.
Yes, there are some bad people in the military but there are also bad people living next door to you, or in your school. So why don't you use an ounce of intelligence and answer this question for yourself.

I was in the Army for 9 years and I never saw a reported rape case in any of my units. I know that it happens, but it is rare. I'm sure the odds are the same in all of the branches of the military. They come down very hard on inappropriate sexual behavior.

Rape is very prevalent in the military, much unreported. You have a large number of testosterone laden men in a mostly (sexually) segregated society. Women who report it are usually treated as though they encouraged the situation and many commands don't want to tarnish their image. I had an ex-gf assaulted and the unit slapped him on the wrist and then tried to deploy them together. My sister was in a similar situation and the command refused to pursue it saying it was too difficult to prove, even with several witnesses. It the same as saying homosexuals were not tolerated - I knew of three open gays in my unit alone and they were well tolerated, and this was long before "don't ask don't tell".

Every type of woman gets raped. I wouldn't specifically narrow it down to just women in the army. I believe in the army it is a bigger deal that there are oppressed women in countries that these soldiers are stationed in that would do anything for the promise of freedom or possibly marriage, or even just being raped because the government doesn't care about their women. I'd have to say with all of the frustrations of being away from home and most of them very into fitness and strength and machoness (generalization I know) They could have rage problems, especially the stereotype yelling in your face general.

Of coarse women are raped in the armed forces. Do you realize that women are isolated in duty areas with men when there is know body to protect them if these guys decide to get amorous. When people are in a combat situation, they feel even less compelled to follow the rules. knowing that the next breath could be their last, so a little poontang helps ease their fears.

The military academy's are notorious for sexual abuse. It seems, every year there's a scandal at the air force academy, when a female cadet will blow the whistle on a male counterpart for doing the deed without mutual consent !

I would say , this is one of the downsides to equal rights !
