of course, if you don't use the proper stroke order you characters are gonna look awful unless you are drawing very, very, slowly and painstakingly. You are probably gonna have a hard time drawing characters from memory if you don't learn the stroke order.

If you know the proper stroke order, you can write with the "running script" (行書), that is much easier and faster to draw, but presumes a solid knowledge of stroke order:

Yes, stroke order is important no matter what you use to write it with. If you're interested in kanji, then it's worth the time to fix it.

For that kind of calligraphy I always use a bamboo brush. It takes practice but it's a lot of fun to do and it looks better than what I've seen done with a pen nib....strictly my opinion though. I'm sure there are those who would argue with me. It think it's just a matter of preference. Try out different styles and tools and you'll find one that's comfortable for you. Have fun with it!!!

In japan i believe a lot of people are very picky about stroke order, yes, there are even tests you can do to show this. but to be honest i don't think it is majorly important unless you want to be completely correct in your japanese writing skills, besides when you're writing with a biro, who can really tell how it was written?

yes it does matter.

I always follow the brush stroke order since the result is always one weird looking kanji character that looks nothing like the real word...

Of course it is important, just as it is in English and every other language. If you see people write English with inappropriate letter formation, wouldn't you have a negative feeling?

I don't know much about Japenese writing, but I did it once with rice paper and everything. I would look it up on Wikipedia or something. If I had to guess I don't think it would make a signifigant difference.

It depends. To purists, it is important. To Westerners, it is not important. Chinese were horrified when I wrote their hanzi in any old order, but impressed that I knew some of them.

Ideally yes, it will sometimes look kind of weird if you don't do it in the right order.
