i just bought a new computer and it has windows vista. i am now learning that office 2007 is huge pain in the *** bc when i send documents to others (i.e. professors) it appears as docx. so no one can open it without downloading viewers (which is a pain in their asses). do you think it is possible to run an older version of microsoft office on vista? should i ditch the vista for xp? whats the use of having this new version if i can not send documents? please help...

All you (or your professor) need to do is to download the Compability Pack from Microsoft so you can use previous version of word to open the new docx format. Here's the link: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/word/HA100444731033.aspx?pid=CH100626291033

When saving your documents, save them as .doc, which is an option. This will solve your problems. To answer the question, yes you could run an older version of office on XP, but no reason to, simply save documents as .doc.
