600 lumens is a bit brighter than a 10-watt light bulb. It is a common brightness for a projector bulb. In bright sunlight it would be hard to spot a 600 lumen light from a distance unless you were looking right at it.

Hi. The specification for how many lumens a projector has is no indication of how bright the image will be .To get the best overall picture the room should be in total darkness or close to it.If you are going to view in a brightly lit room you will need more brightness which upsets the balance for contrast resolution and other properties. My Sharp DLP is rated at 700 ansi lumens but in a dark room it is very bright.I hope this has helped a bit.
Cheers.

A 600 lumen projector is like a 10 year old projector. Today's projectors are 1000 lumens minimum. A 600 lumen projector would need to work in a completely dark room.
If you are in a lit room, then you need 2000 lumens minimum. 2500 is ideal.

600 lumens is pretty low for a projector. The ones that are used for powerpoint presentations are usually 1200-2200 lumens, and much brighter. The 600 lumens would be pretty crappy if viewed in a bright room. Get a brighter one...about 1800 lumens. The only drawback is that a replacement bulb is pretty expensive.

ALL A/V projectors (even the $40,000 models) require an almost totally dark room to be seen well. That's just one reason why they do not make any sense for most people. In addition to which the picture quality of a good plasma is better by far.

Projectors are designed to work in total to near total darkness (like a movie theater). Put some drapes on your windows that will seal out as much of the light as possible and you should be alright.

If you want a good picture which is not washed out, it helps to have a screen or wall which is not shiny or too white, because this will tend to reflect too much incident light. A matt, slightly off-white surface may give a better result. It will pay you to experiment if this is possible.
