The technology exists, OK, but I doubt any would be willing to risk sending unmanned aircraft over a region and just bomb it indiscriminately just because Intelligence report indicated a threat there; sending pilots over the area means they can make an evaluation and decide whether the info was correct. If not, or if the Threat had moved, then an on-the-spot decision could be made to either not drop bombs, or look for another target.
Remote-piloting also invites problems as the enemy could block the signal, causing the aircraft to crash or drop its bombs too early or too late -- maybe even on the troops of the side operating them, or on a nation which was neutral but became incensed enough to declare war on the nation operating the aircraft.
I foresee no circumstance where ANY Government not interested in world domination would take such risks, so they'll continue with manned aircraft and cruise missiles.

Recon planes can be controlled by machine, but a real fighter will not likely use any kind of ways to operates remotely, for the reason, that it takes a human judgement behind the control of such plane to succeed most missions, of course, it doesn't mean that machine cannot make the task easier, but we still have to make the final decisions when fighting something that can fight back... But it could make some pretty kamikaze weapons without costing human life.
Also, technologically speaking, we are not capable to create a machine that could think like a human...
Of course, we don't know what is before us, especially when it comes to military stuffs...

The U.S Military is already in the works with such. Currently we have UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) most of which are meant for recon but some others are capable of carrying a payload of weapons and missles.
I doubt the U.S Military will ever get rid of human flown Fighter Aircrafts. I'm sure the Military and the goverment are already developing Unmanned Aerial Bombers, or are in the process of doing so.

I do not think that we will replace fighter pilots with technology. Look at what happened in the UK in the 50's I think it was. Cancelled a lot of very good projects because parlament decided that manned fighters were obsolete and guided missiles were the future.

America has the market cornered on that one .
- There is no country or compilation of countries that can compare to America in the technology field - especially fighter planes. America is 50 years ahead of the next closest nation..
- Just watch the Military Channel.
- Or read a book.

There will always be humans at the controls even if the person isn't in the craft. Humans are much more smarter and any reflex actions could still be done by the machine.

Take the (wo)guy out of the cockpit. greater low priced airplane (so greater could be made), greater constructive maneuverability, safer, one-way missions attainable. you will basically could desire to be certain you have a information-hyperlink that may not in possibility of jamming, or an onboard intelligence that may not going to pass Terminator on you and initiate vaporizing your troops (not that some human pilots have not executed this in any case).

Pilotless bombers are already in test flights. Think a plane that can fly anywhere on earth in about 1.5 hours and drop the bombs then return. We got it, just not cleared for use yet.

I believe the technology exists to fly fighter jets and commercial jets remotely today.
Perhaps its a cost or confidence issue.
