I think it's mostly because not many people are interested in buying baby chick-shaped candies at any other time of year (or bunny-shaped candies, for that matter).
But Just Born, Inc, the company the produces Peeps, makes differently-shaped Peep-like candies all through the year, for different seasons and holidays. You might get a star-shaped Peep for the Fourth of July, and ghost- and pumpkin-shaped Peeps for Halloween.

They now sell peeps at Halloween, Christmas, Easter and I think that is it but I'm not sure.

LOL. there are many chocolates and candies that are sold only during Easter, and I really like them... it's probably so that you'll crave them and purchase a lot of them during Easter =)

If they made them all year round they wouldn't sell well because everyone would get sick of them. They are smart by making you wait so you'll stock up

You can order them online, and some stores do carry them occasionally. Im with you though, I wish the were more readily available all year!!
