I think I understand the question.

You're talking about the intercession of saints.

The saints themselves do not do the miracle. They go to God to ask for this miracle. They intercede for us.

For instance this nun who was healed of Parkinson's after she asked Pope John Paul II to intercede for her. JPII didn't work the miracle. He went to God on her behalf.

Does that explain it for you? or have I totally misunderstood the question?

I see by the many responses we have some folks who clearly do NOT understand catholicism. St. Peter the nun has never claimed JPII healed her. She states he interceded for her.

You Will never see a miracle performed all the time you v got a hole in your ar?s so grow up. God is in every human being not an entity and heaven is a plain that cannot be defined with our present knowledge. Evolution in man will develop God further and enhance the way humanity strives forward. Miracles are performed every day by the mind God gave us to use so use yours and get real. Simply kneeling in prayer and waisting time bleating out praise to God is a complete waste of time and is for the poor sick people that have no education and not willing to participate in mans forwards struggle.God is the good in Man listen to and act good and all of us will live in a place akin to heaven here on earth and after were dead. God uses these people to perform miracles through them as if to show to those of us still here that a particular person was a good and devout person. So, it's not really the dead person who is performing the miracle; it's God still working through him or her. I, as a Catholic Christian, believe this because I have faith.

Only God does the miracles regardless. Even if the priest is still alive, it's God that does the miracle.

God alone performs miracles. Catholic will cite the intercession of those who have died, but they do not actually perform the miracle.

Unless you are taking the word miracle at its original meaning which was "mighty deed." That could change things a bit, since nature is capable of many mighty deeds.

There is no biblical evidence that anybody other than God Himself performs miracles from Heaven. The bible does tell us though, that we as Christians can perform miracles in His name.

God sometimes uses living humans to perform miracles. We've been given the authority to do miraculous acts in the name of Jesus.... which means it's God who does them through us.

Dead people - not so much.

blessings :)

The Bible does not make mention of humans becoming something higher than other humans. The concepts of sainthood and priesthood as we understand them today are invented by the Catholic Church. Protestantism provides a more Bible-grounded theology to Christianity. From the protestant standpoint, a human does not interact with the earth after death (at least, there is no Biblical evidence of this). And certainly, we do not become 'demi-gods'.

Only God can do that. However, all of salvation history shows us that God can and does certainly use humans to carry out his works. Can he use a dead priest -- or other dead persons? I assure you, they are only dead to this life, this world. They are very much alive and far more pure in their prayer for they no longer sin...

The Book of Revelation itself speaks of angels bringing prayers of the saints before the throne of God: see Rev. 5:8, 8:3-4. Thus, angels here ARE intermediaries....aren't they?

Jesus is not the sole intermediary of our prayers....he is the sole intermediary of our SALVATION... Notice how Paul exhorts Christians to offer prayers on behalf of others...Paul would not have us offer prayers on behalf of others if we are meant to go through Jesus only.

Allegedly, only God can perform miracles...

I think I know where you are going with this..... Pope JPII, right?? Recently, some nun claimed that she was cured miraculously from her disease - which also affected JPII - and that what cured her was her prayers to JPII and her convents prayers to JPII. This allows a "miracle" to be attributed to him, so that they may cannnonize him as a Saint.

Except, JPII should be ansering any prayers at all....
