I find it strange as many people disclaim the existence of God and brush off faith as something intangible comapared with modern science.

If God has not sustain the faith of his billions through all ages since the work of Christ, then its hard to attract so many believers over the century.

Is your heart close to Him that is why you deny His existence?

I'm afraid you need to rephrase your entire question. I don't think I'm understanding it correctly, and if I am, then you need to go rethink your entire thought process.

I am not sure. However like it or not atheists, Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Paganism, and all religions provide values. Sure you may question the existence of God, however the fact of the matter is that the allusion, allows for people to decide what is right and wrong, good or evil. So you must except the fact that religion provides the basis of morals in our society.

Point two is that I would like you to answer me a question, not out loud but to yourself. Maybe I am wrong and maybe I am right. If I am wrong than Oh well, I lived my life well and died happy. But If you are wrong, what will you say when you show up in heaven and God is sitting there laughing saying, oh look another one? By denying god you have nothing to gain and everything to lose. While I on the other hand have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

The question now becomes not so much you believe in God, but why not believe in God, whoever he may be.

I am not an atheist. I believe because I make the choice. I may be wrong. Ive been wrong before and I'll be wrong again. I have no evidence. There is none. I have no rational. It is not a rational or reasonable thought. I have Faith. There is no justification for Faith in the supernatural by definition. But I have Faith anyway.
.
Saying I believe 'cause all these other people over the years believed is a reall poor answer.Just shows you don't use your head.

I'm 99.99% sure that there are no such things as gods. I'm also 99.99% sure that there are no such things as elves or sprites. Of course I'm open to new evidence, if you have any to offer.

What you need to realize here, what you have been taught is not the only thing that has been taught. There are a billion Hindus out there, hundreds of millions of Buddists, etc. The religions of Egypt, Greece and Rome has their own followers at one time. How can you deny the existence of these other gods and still insist that your god is real?

Does God exist? Unknown.

A counter question to your details (in the spirit of Plato):

Did God sustain the faith of his billions? Or did the billions sustain their faith in God? What caused that faith? Was it Jesus Christ, or the need for man to explain the unexplainable?

Man has always looked for answers - and when we don't find them, we do tend to get creative. Instead of large creators on a nearby celestial object, we call it the "Man in the Moon". Instead of explaining that a person died at 30 because he didn't take very good care of his body, we say "God took him, it was his time." Instead of looking for rational and logical answers, and admitting We Don't Know, we attribute it to an unforeseen power force which we have all termed as "God".

At the age of 50, after havening studied maths and other sciences all my life, I can only say - the more I learn (physics chemistry, biology, etc) the greater admiration for the work of our Creator.
Even the Theory of evolution (I am an evolutionist) is a proof that God has created the world in 7 days (periods of time, not necessarily days).
He does exist for God is One!

Many arguments for and against the existence of God have been proposed and rejected by philosophers, theologians, and other thinkers. In philosophical terminology, existence of God arguments concern schools of thought on the epistemology of the ontology of God.

There are many philosophical issues concerning the existence of God. Some definitions of God are so nonspecific that it is certain that something exists that meets the definition; while other definitions are apparently self-contradictory. Arguments for the existence of God typically include metaphysical, empirical, inductive, and subjective types. Arguments against the existence of God typically include empirical, deductive, and inductive types. Conclusions reached include: "God exists and this can be proven"; "God exists, but this cannot be proven or disproven" (theism in both cases); "God does not exist" (atheism); and "no one knows whether God exists" (agnosticism). There are numerous variations on these positions.

Yes He does indeed exist - I know this because I have a personal relationship with Him, through His Son Jesus Christ.
You can't KNOW someone if they don't exist. This is my EXPERIENCE which no one can take away from me.

Apart from this, there are many professions that involve seeking for clues of "intelligent design" and intentionally-that is, clues that indicate an intelligent being intentionally engaged in a particular action, as opposed to something being a chance occurence.
Examples include

- crime scene investigators (who look for intentionality at crime scenes.

- insurance investigators (who look for clues of intentional fraud)

- archeologists (who uncover evidences of intentional design among ruins)

- cryptographers (who seek to distinguish intelligently encoded messages from random signals)

From a scientific perspective, we infer that an item is intelligently designed if it is irreducibly complex.

An irreducibly complex mechanism is composed of a number of well-matched, interacting parts that contriubute to the functioning of that mechanism. If any of these well-matched, interacting parts is removed, the mechanism will no longer function.

A good example is a mousetrap:

This mechanism has a number of components, each necessary to its functioning. If any of these components is missing, the mousetrap no longer functions correctly.

If its missing a spring, a hammer, or platform, for example, it will not work.

That is why we categorise it as irreducibly complex.

We thus infer that the mousetrap was designed by an intelligent being.

The irreducible complexity of the eye is evident in that it is a mechanism with many well-matched, interacting parts that contribute to the function of sight.

You obviously believe in him, so what good would it do to contradict you?

But seriously, lets say there IS a higher power, why would he have ANYTHING to do with us, or our souls? Isn't thinking that an omnicient being wants us to love him enough to torture us just really self centered? Couldn't you people be satisfied that he GAVE YOU LIFE? Why would he have to send his son to do a magic act that David Blaine can put to shame in order to make us believe in him? Why would he care? Why does he need money all the time and why does he hate everyone that doesn't believe in him (with no evidence or reason to,) enough to sentence them to eternal suffering? If he's God and loves everyone and can do anything, then it would be simple for him to SAVE EVERYONE and not be such an @sshole, right? Or is that beyond his INFINITE POWER?

Religions sustain the faith of believers through fear. Humans are faced with their own impending death, just that some turn to religion that provides a psychological crutch, in terms of life after death and guidance in an uncertain world.

You should research what Freud and Marx have to say about religion, its interesting stuff.

God has not sustained faith for so long, so much as RELIGION has. There's a big difference. Churches have had thousands of years to modify their doctrine to ensure there will always be believers. They're still doing it now. 2 thousand years is a long time to refine your brainwashing techniques, and they have it down to a fine art.

Also, millions believed for thousands of years that the earth was flat, and that it was the centre of the universe. Does that make it right?
