One item South Korea is famous for is the Ginseng.

Studies have shown and proven that Korean Ginseng, grown between the 36th and 38th Parallel is the very finest one can purchase.

Also (earlier this year), South Korea is famous for having two of the top three brands of electronic goods, such as flat-screen televisions. Those brands are LG and Samsung.

I believe another answer stated Kimchi; this is true, but Kimchi is really not as offensive as some people believe. South Korea is now exporting large quantities of Kimchi to many countries of the world.

The person probably believes it's offensive because of the Garlic? But then, Garlic is used in every country of the world.

Mushrooms are also gaining popularity and being exported in large quantities.

South Korea is also gaining popularity with clothing and clothing designs.

One item Korea will be famous for when the history books catch up is the invention of the first iron-clad ship. This event, when acknowledged, will replace the Monitor and Merriac of U.S. Civil War fame. Korea had an armored ship about 350+ years before the Civil War.

Thank you for intersting in korea, and I wanna introduce about me, I'm Korean.
Korea is one of the beautiful place here in Korea peninsula.
We have lots of bad memories once upon a time, but It 's time to tell about Kroea's famous things? So I don't want to say that.

First, THE most famous food is Kimchi. Kimchi is very spicy but it's a lot of nutrition in Kimchi. If you visit in Korea, you 'll enjoy eating a Kimchi.
Second, There's a lot of big company, like Hyundai, Samsung, Kia like that. I think there's make our economy system improved as well as industry.
Third, One of the great language is Hangul. I love Hangul, but one of the llike using a language of English.
Have you visited in Korea? Please join with Korea. You'll get a great chance to learn about new culture or experice. I recommed it~

1. definitely kimchi (fermented cabbage)

2. heavy contributors to 'The Simpsons', one of the writers is Korean.

3. the first digital music player was invented (and introduced?) in S. Korea

4. 'hallyu' - (the Korean Wave) These days and for the past several years, Korean media has taken asia by storm... music, tv, movies... most significantly the music.. aka "K-pop"

5. Tae Kwon Do

6. As far as game development, japan has the title for that as far as the world is concerned, however, Korean pc games are very popular(to the dismay of the Chinese Government) with the Chinese. Japan utilizes alot of Korean music in their games and Korean artists to develop the soundtrack for their games.

7. The Korean alphabet and writing system has been regarded and acknowledged by linguists and scholars the world over for being the most logical and scientific of all living languages.

One thing that immediately makes Korea stand out at least among people (foreigners) who've lived there is that they all invariably say the same exact thing... "Living in Korea is like living in outer space".

But, honestly, is Korea really "famous" for anything? At the moment, I cannot think of anything that makes me want to say "_______ makes Korea famous." Korea and Koreans have largely been known to be very kind and hospitable people to all visitors, however, they very much keep to themselves in their own world.

Which probably explains why Korea is the most homogenous first-world country in the world.

btw, did I mention "kimchi"?

Koreans. I know, bad. There was also the war or "conflict," as it was called, in the 1950's where we tried to stop the spread of communism. Google it for more info. A saying on the Korean War memorial in Washington DC sums it up "Freedom is Never Free."
