You can buy a universal remote, if the DVD player is recently made. Most electronic stores carry them. But, a few off brand DVD players may have to be programmed with the remote which you can't do.
You could look on line on the manufactures website and see if they make that model of DVD player still. In that case you might be able to order a replacement for your lost remote. This is hardly a unique problem so I am sure they will be happy to sell you a new remote.
Sharper Image does offer an interesting device. The first part of the device is a key fob that you can put on your key chain or post it in a spot where you can easily find it. The next part of the device are 4 tags that you attach to things like your remotes our your car keys. When you press the button on the fob the tags will start beeping, which will make it easier for you to find them.
I wouldn’t suggest eBay, there is too much of a chance of getting what you don’t want and who is going to sell a remote without selling the component that goes with it? You will do far better checking with the manufacturer.

If it is a tiny one that came with the player you will probably have to order one from the company. A universal remote is usually for larger players but you can try. There is list of codes for each player and if not listed you can scan through all codes.
You do not need the original remote for most universal remotes. There are some programmable ones that have the capability to learn each key, one at a time, from the old remote.

You need to buy a universal remote. They don't cost too much, probably you can get one for under $20.00. Then you have to program the remote by entering a certain code for your particular brand of DVD player. The instruction manual will provide you with a list of codes.

you could try ebay as thats a good bet. failing that buy one of the universal remotes. there are several on the market, but some have more features than others. Argos do a few, and most stores like currys, dixons etc. Again theres always ebay for that too.

I did have similar problem with my Pioneer mini audio system... As soon as I bought new remote control I found the old one. I bout it from the dealer of the Pioneer and it did cost a lot (20 quid for tiny thing!!!). Step one: try to find your old one. somewhere behind of sofa, in the pillows of your sofa ext. Try it! You will be surprised by the amount of things you can discover on the way. If that didn't work out... Amazon or E Bay always at hand together with your plastic card...

They sell universal remote controls everywhere. You can program them to just about any TV or DVD player. I don't know where you live but for example they have them at Best Buy, Walgreen's, Target.
