haha this sounds REALLY strange but when i had braces and no tylenol i would get a (clean, of course) washcloth, soak it in water, wad it up, and chew on it. it's totally weird. but i liked it. it applied pressure without being a hard substance. it really helped me after those days when you get them tightened.

I'm not sure. I really haven't had much pain with my braces, but back when I first got them, I found a great website with lots of info and a really good message board. You can ask any question there and get a bunch of answers. The people are so nice. Here's a link: www.archwired.com

The person who said 'chewing on a washcloth' is right on the money! Babies do it when they have teething pain, and it works for them.
You can try Tylenol or Motrin for the first day or so.
Invest in some Anbesol or Oragel, it helps and won't affect the rest of your body.

Hot liquids seems to help me when I get them adjusted. You have to keep drinking though, at least with me, once I stop and the temp in my mouth goes back to normal, the pain comes back.

i think you have 2 take medicine,
or you should just lay down..
but don't worry, just you'r gums need to get used to the braces..

well good luck!
