I just got engaged, and I spend a lot of time in the summer swimming in my pool. Should I be taking it off everytime i swim?

My ring is snug, so i am not worried at all about it falling off, and I have no need to show it off while in water, Mainly I think its just a pain to take it off and on, and wanted to know if the Chlorine was damaging to the diamond or the white gold. Thanks guys!

As most jeweler's websites will tell you, it is not a good idea to wear your jewelry in the water.
Gold's worst enemy is chlorine. Repeated exposure weakens its structure and can lead to breakage; therefore, keep your jewelry away from chlorinated cleaning products and out of swimming pools and Jacuzzis. A weakend setting can cause you to lose your diamond, and you won't really even know until it's too late. Your diamond can also be chipped if you knock it against the walls of the pool getting in and out.
Your best bet is to leave the ring at home. Never wear it on a chain (it can break) or leave it in your bag on a chair or a locker. Also, you should definitely make sure your ring is insured.

I had my white gold ring for two days, went swimming in an indoor pool, and then realized I scratched the bottom of it up on the cement siding. I was so pissed! I don't think the chlorine damaged the ring, though be careful of cement.

No, if it is real gold and diamonds it should be fine. I never take my rings off. I think the risk of losing them or them being stolen outways the chlorine damaging them.

I would. Not because I would be worried about the chlorine, but because I would worry that it would fall off in the water.

No water won't hurt it. I swam for a traveling swim and I always wore my white gold band in the water. It won't hurt it. If your scared then take it off. But No it wont hurt it.

If it is made of gold or Platinum (which cannot oxidize) you are OK .
Other metals that are highly oxidize (copper, aluminum, silver, Magnesium,) will all corrode with continuous exposure to water (chlorine won't speed up or slow down oxidization)
SO there you go

If it is a real diamond and real gold, your ok. If it is fake, take it off. I hope it is real ;) Personally, I would never take it off. Congrats.

No, but if you're swimming with somebody who you shouldn't be swimming with, that could be extremely bad for your engagement.
