It is a spiritual life with God, which we can have here too, the
rest is icing on the cake.

Take it as it is..
Rev 21:18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
Rev 21:19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
Rev 21:20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.

Those things you describe in your question such as pearly gates and streets of gold sound fine. But as a Christian I think being able to spend time with God for the rest of eternity in His holy and righteous presence is good enough for me.

It could appear that way. But since heaven is a reward, and rewards are, generally, supposed to be pretty fantastic (or at least something good), it stands to reason that God's reward would be better than fantastic.
Greed, the love of money, the pursuit of wealth, etc. are sinful.
None of these are applicable when referring to heaven.
Did you read his instructions for consturction of the ark of the covenant, and the tent for the ark in Leviticus
I agree with you about heaven being eternal spiritual life with God. If he chooses to make it spectacular, who is going to argue with him?
God bless you!
Hope I helped!

No one really knows what heaven is like. It's probably something we can not comprehend.
I had a dream of passing to the "other side" for a brief time. In this dream I saw a beautiful park with many people walking, talking, laughing, etc. I spoke to a co-worker that passed away not too long ago. He was doing just fine. Of all the questions I could have asked, like a bonehead, I asked him one question....."What did you think of your funeral?" He answered, "it was pretty nice." After this my dream ended. Pretty weird, huh?

Heaven is beautiful. But what else could you expect when the perfect God lives there. God created all those beautiful things to begin with for us to enjoy. It's not like wanting to go there and recieve lumps of money, stereos, cars, unnecessary objects. It's basically just for the viewing pleasure of those who reside with God, Jesus, and his angels.

Gates of pearl and streets of gold have nothing to do with materialism. This is the new Jerusalem, as the bible describes it.

I believe each person has their own version of Heaven.
A real good movie is Whatever dreams may come, with Robin Williams. Real tear jerker about heaven and what it is to different people.
