I've been to Israel over 40 times and seen evry place you can think of.

If it's sun, sand, sea, fun, cabarets, water sports you want - go to Eilat.

If you like traffic james - Tel Aviv

Religious sites? - Jerusalem

My son lives in Haifa which is very nice but my favourite town is Naharia on the Med. in the north.

I've been to Israel. It's not as bad as the media depicts it. However Tel-Aviv seems to be the safest city but I may be wrong. Cities such as Jerusalem can be a little dangerous so exercise caution and use common sense. Stay in places were IDF troops are nearby and make sure you know Israel's emergency phone numbers (It's not 911 there). Stick with your tour group as much as possible and try not to wonder off. Also don't leave any luggage or possessions of yours unattended in any parts of an Israeli city because the IDF is obligated to treat it as a potential bomb and will destroy it through implosion. But most of the time it's safe. Most of the people there are friendly and down to earth (even the Arabs there are friendly) When I went there I did not witness a single bombing. However tourists in Israel are most frequently killed by dehydration not by terrorists so always carry plenty of water with you at all times! Just use common sense and you will be fine. Most importantly, Have Fun!

Well it depends on what your interested in.

If it is nature then I suggest the Golan, Galilee area in the north as well as Eillat in the South.

If you interested in art and culture Then Areas around Tel aviv and Haifa are a must see

If you are interested in History and Archeology then Jerusalem and the surrounding area is where you need to be.

Most people pick and choose from all three.

Nice Areas to Travel and Sea:
-Caesaria- ancient Roman port with beaches, horse racing, concerts, golf, amazing cafes, beaches, well-preserved ruins
-Haifa- the Bahai Shrine and Gardens (beautiful, amazing gardens) and take in the view from the top of Mt Carmel (dinner at sunset would be amazing there)
-Netanya- resort city north of Tel Aviv with great beaches and lots of French influences- a bit of the French Riviera in the heart of the Middle East
-Accre- ancient Crusader port- Turkish/Arab/Oriental atmosphere- great hummus and sook
-Safed- holy Jewish city in the mountains of northern Israel; home of kaballah; many buildings painted in blue; very pretty place and some good shopping
-Nazareth/Tiberias/Capernaum/Jordan River/Sea of Galilee- great swimming in the Sea of Galilee (stunning lake); Christian holy sites (you may be a bit disappointed...they're worth visiting but not worth spending too much time at); Tzipori is a very well-preserved Roman city in the area that is also worth a visit
-the Golan Heights- beautiful and itneresting mountains- Migdal Nimrod is a stunning Turkish fortress built onto the side of a mountain and offers stunning views; the Banas and Tel Dan nature parks offer very nice hikes
-Jerusalem- the Old City, Israel Museum, Yad Vashem, Abu Ghosh (Arab village near Jerusalem with very friendly people and the absolute best hummus and falafel that you'll find anywhere) and much more
-Dead Sea- Masada and Ein Gedi and floating in the Sea
-Eilat- go swimming with the dolphins, snorkeling
-Tel Aviv- Yaffo (ancient port with many nice art galleries and cafes- very pretty), Neve Tzedek (nice neighborhood with lots of galleries, cafes, nice ambiance), Diaspora Museum, the beaches (tel aviv has great beaches), Nachlat Binyamin (artists' market where you can buy very nice crafts at reasonable prices)

As for areas to avoid...things change all the time. Keep abreast of things prior to leaving for Israel. Generally, it's a very very safe country. So no worries.

definately go to Tel Aviv, just stay away from really crowded places and buses. I would also go to Ceasaria, is really pretty and go to a concert or festival at the roman amphitheatre there. Also, i would go to jerusalem obviously, but stay away from the arab sects. the beach at tel aviv is lots of fun, and maybe go to Eilat, it is like the hawaii of israel lol. hope i helped!

We went to Jerusalem on March and it was beautiful, we never felt any danger!! The city is incredible, the people are beautiful, young and hip! There was a soccer match between Israel and England... all the bars were packed with young people... i would go back!!
