If you get a plane ticket early from Southwest.com you can save $.....That is the cheapest airline here to San Diego....

Well I would suggest Amtrak as the best way to make the trip as it is comfortable, low cost and relatively fast. I would avoid Greyhound at all costs right now as they are about to have a major labor dispute. Southwest airlines has decent service between the two cities. And, if you really want to make the trip cheaply and adventurously, you can actually take public transit all the way down the state for just a few dollars although several transfers are necessary between the various transit providers that link up the state. Still, all in all, I suggest Amtrak. Good Luck!

Sacramento has a great airport (SMF) go to yahoo travel or as an example Southwest Airlines is not part of the Yahoo travel and book your flight to San Diego.
