King Solomon built the First temple.

The second Temple started to be rebuilt in the time of Darius but was then halted. Cyrus then allowed it to continue and Ezra led a group of jewish exiles back to israel and oversaw the construction of the second temple which was a much humbler affait than the one built by Solomon. Later herod, in an attempt to garner popularity (he was hated by the Jews as, in collusion with the Romans, he had wiped out the royal family, except for one daughter whom he forcefully married, and declared himself king) gave funds for it to be refurbished and made mre elaborate.
