I made my 9 year old daughter a May Day hat out of old beercans, cigarette packs and duct tape. I made it at the bar, so it smelled kind of funny too. I taped a whistle on it too. It looks pretty cool.

BUT she refused to wear it to school on Monday for fear her friends might make fun of her.

Should I ground her for not wearing it?

I wore that pretty dress she got me on Fathers Day!

No. She's doing the right thing by refusing to wear it to school. It would violate school rules because it would symbolize alcohol and tobacco. She could get kicked out of school for wearing beercans and cigarette packs.

Why would you make a hat out of beer cans & cigarette packs for a child, and expect her to wear it to school? what are you trying to teach her?
Maybe if you made it out of candy boxes or something for kids, and just for fun around the house or on Halloween it would be fun, but not to wear to school, kids are cruel, I understand its the thought that counts but, a beercan cigarette box hat, and wearing it to school. come on, this can't be real.
But if this is real, of course you shouldn't ground her, YOU should be grounded

Yeah but she's a little girl, a growing girl at expect.

My dad was the same, he'll get the hump with me for not doing the things that I know he made the effort for, but that I am afraid it's part of growing up, especially for girls.

If she doesn't want to wear it, grounding her will make her rebel against you. Be sympathetic towards her, and tell her that it's okay to be embarrassed and ask her what she would like to wear and then help her make it. Other wise your going to squash herself confidence, and she's a growing girl after all, they're not the same as boys :-)

I don't think its a reason for grounding her its kind of inappropriate to have cigarettes and beer cans (although empty) at a school. You'll probably laugh about it later in life but at the age of 9 image is everything.
Good luck to ya :)

Well i think that was rude of her to not wear it but dont ground her becasue she didnt do anything too bad we all just have different tastes in stuff but if you made it for a boy that may be a different story

It sounds like this is a joke, but in case it's not....wearing that to school would be against the rules. It's against school policy to wear alcohol or cigarette paraphernalia.

NO, THATS A STupid reason to ground your kid. if my father made me wear something like that i would be mad. And why were you at a bar while you should be home wathcing your daughter? You should have helped her make something. not made it for her. and something out of beer cans and cigeratte boxes!
