If you eat alot of high calorie things in one day, but you go to the gym the same day, will you burn it off or could you still put on weight?

Also after eating alot of fatty food, how quickly would you put on weight and how much would you need to eat to do so?

Thanks in advance

It is all about the balance of calories and food types. Yes you can have high calorie foods if you are also expelling a lot of energy.

It is a little pointless if you are trying to lose weight and also it is in place of an otherwise healthy meal... but yes of course you can.

For your own interest I recommend that you google a calorie vs exercise calculator and work out how much exercise you need to do to burn off the calories in the cake... it really is quite surprising.

I say eat to run, run to eat.

It's a simple numbers game. 3500 calories = one pound, so if you consume more than you're actually burning off, you'll gain weight. It doesn't take long AT ALL to do this, considering that in some restaurant and fast food places you can easily down over 1000 calories in your meal alone, not including drinks and dessert and the rest of the food you've eaten that day.

Hi hun,

Basically it all comes down to maths and there's no other way to tell than to work it out properly!

This website will help you:
http://www.soyouwanna.com/site/syws/loseweight/loseweight.html

Basically, 1lb of fat = 3,500 calories.

So to LOSE 1lb of fat in a week, you need to cut out or burn 3,500 calories from your diet. As the average person needs 2,000 calories per day, this would mean cutting down to 1,500 calories per day - to acheive a weight loss of 1lb per week.

Similarly, if you want to put on 1lb, you'd need to eat an extra 3,500 calories more than you need!

It sounds like a lot but if you consider your average night out with the girls (5 alcopops at 200 cals each plus a takeaway) you can see why people put on weight! You could put on 1lb in a week if you had eaten all your calories for the day then sunk an extra 3 alcopops each night on top of that!

You need to make a food diary and figure out how much calories you are taking in. You also need to figure out how many calories you burn at the gym. Try this website:
http://www.fatfreekitchen.com/weightloss/calories-burn.html

The only way you can genuinely tell whether or not you will put on weight is to make a food diary and add your calories up. One cake isn't going to make you put on weight as long as you are sticking to your general calorie limits for the week.

Of course, going to the gym helps to burn off some of the calories from the 'naughty' food, so there's no reason to give up!

xx Emmie

you will only burn off the amount of calories needed for the amount of effort you put in to the exercise.
If you are aiming to loose weight, this is not the way to do it.
If you are aiming to just get fit, it probably doesnt matter as much
Either way, your attitude is probably not the best thing in the long run.
At one time i was goiong to a gymn three times a week AND watching what I ate and I still didnt loose weight. It isn't that simple.

If you eat 35 grams of fiber a day the weight is less likely to stick, also it depends on the type of the desert, is it complex or simple carbs? complex carbs can't get burned off for a day, but simple carbs can get burned off shortly after eating.

You'll probably burn off the cals at the gym but isn't that deafeating the object of losing weight?

You might not gain weight if you are still burning more calories than you consume, but you are doing not one bit of good to your heart and will not build any muscle due to lack of protein intake. Skinny people can still have really bad cholesterol and health issues.

I cant see the harm because you are burning off the calories at the gym.

maybe you should think about cutting back on eating so much fatty food and eat an apple or something.
