You mean Neisseria meningitidis. It is a Gram-negative diplococcus aerobe that causes bacterial (meningococcal) meningitis. Commonly affects infants and adolescents (dorm-dwellers!). Transmitted person to person by droplet inhalation. Usually incubates for 3 or 4 days. It's vaccine preventable, which is good 'cause it is a SCARY disease. In severe cases, it can kill quickly. Case fatality is over 50%. Symptoms include: sudden high fever, severe headache, petechial rash, nausea and vomiting.

When I was a child I was taken to church, Sunday school and the like. While much of it made no sense, I assumed these adults wouldn't all just be lying to me so maybe it would make sense when I learned a bit more. Then in third grade history class I learned about the inquisition. I realized everything I had been told was not only untrue, but that those who claimed to be the most religious didn't believe it either as evidenced by them not following it. ( This was not a long process, the moment I read of the burning of Jan Hus, I rejected Christianity.) Later, after reading the bible for myself ( as well as other religious works), studying the evidence and so on, I realized that not only was Christianity untrue, but there was no good evidence for any god at all.
