In a dream I was dreaming that I was been mauled by evil spirits and taunted. In the dream I was in exactly the same place as I was in reality at the time (ie in my bed with the surroundings the same). I felt the evil spirits were coming through the window. I couldn't speak even though I wanted to scream in fear. Then in my dream I managed to shout out "in the name of Jesus of nazareth get out." Then the curtains to my window closed immediately by an unseen hand. I then woke up immediately dazed and confused as to whether it really happened or not.
Anyone got any experiences with this type of thing?

Well the dream does witness to Christ's authority over spirits and that He is the Saviour.

This is good news.

Does it not witness to you of salvation in Him? Yes indeed it surely does.

Is it not an encouragement to you to continue towards the Lord and to keep seeking Him for in Him is all your deliverance?

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I've had dreams like that several times over although my dreams were centered around battling them physically and beating the unholy dickens out of them or- more along the lines of the forthcoming apocalyptic days. More often than not beyond the battle dreams I had a lot of apocalyptic dreams and the only way I could find my way out of it was calling out to God to be rescued.

Someone had told me that such dreams were tests of faith and to see how well a person trusts in- as well as knows God and sometimes the frequency or the repetition of dreams are a half and half thing: aka- one dream and a long period of time afterwards peacefully sleeping at night is a test- repeated nightmares night after night is an ongoing torment by the Devil for being angry that God overpowered which means I faced the Devil's wrath in my sleep for quite a while and all because I refused to renounce my faith in God.

It sounds more so like you were tested the one time though and I would suggest that you make sure that you are somewhat aware of the fact that the Devil can come back and try again- but now you know how defeat him when he does which in other words- yes dear- it was real.

You're prophetic! Congradulations! That's an awesome spiritual gift to have. I have it as well. I would do some research on the 9 gifts of the spirit. People who have the gift of prophecy often have dreams that clue them in to what will happen in the near future...it's not like a psychic...it happens occasionally and it is God's way of telling you to make a change in your life or speak to someone about theirs...on the downside it sounds like you have a demonic presence coming around you and you need to do exactly what your dream said...command the spirit to leave in the name of Jesus.

Not exactly like that and never with Christ in it, but similar in that there was battle with dark forces.
I think your dream means that your mind is full of things that you are beginning to feel should not be there. At the same time it sounds like in your waking life you are coming into contact with Christianity in a positive way and maybe starting to feel that Christ can help to keep you safe from the more dangerous things in your mind.
It is a time of growth and change. As the priest says:
Trust God
Clean House
Help others.
... hope that helps.

You experienced sleep paralysis while in a state of lucid dreaming. Interestingly enough this is a common experience that minds handle in different ways. The religious mind often conjures up demons and evil spirits during this while others may imagine aliens as the scary subject. Some people may dream of government agents or unknown scientists who have paralyzed them. It's very very common and normal. The actual paralysis is a safety mechanism that your mind engages so you do not injure yourself during lucid dreams.

Another common lucid dreaming experience involves flying through the air or floating in and out of places or above your sleeping body.

I have had this experience a few times. You feel like you are awake, but you can't move, and when you try to talk it comes out all gibberish. I have felt like something evil was in the room and I felt if I didn't call out to the Heavenly Father that something bad would happen. When I am able to call on the Heavenly Father, then I am able to move and wake fully.

Could be a number of things....lets get back to reality!

one: what did you eat before you went to bed?
two: are you strongly religious....do you think there might be some wishful thinking on your part?
three: what would evil spirits want from you? what makes you so special.
Come back down to earth, don't read stuff that scares the life out of you and just realise that it was just a nightmare. We all have them!

I've dabbled in spiritualism for 25 years and never had anything close to this type of experience.

If this dream recurrs frequently, then I'd say you are either obsessed or on the wrong track spiritually and need higher spiritual training.

Johnno, you may have been experiencing a demonic dream. Good for you for remembering to call upon Jesus. Now, I want you to do the following.

God loves you, begin to thank him for deliverance.
Secondly, fill your mind with prayer and scripture. Meditate on the word of God and let God fill you. This will help you in case you ever have another episode like this.

Yikes!!!

Sounds like a night terror. It is a nightmare that happens when you half awake so both reality and imagintion intermingle at the same time. Certain things can cause this, but these night terrors were the basis of witch accusations, but even still rather you then me.
