It might top 4 bucks in a few places but overall, it won't get to 4 bucks a gallon nationally. Check the chart below, I set the time to 5 years. Prices spike every spring. The big spike is Katrina and like it or not, we're still recovering from Katrina. There aren't enough refineries to build up supply to where it should be.
The west coast got hammered because there were 2 unscheduled refinery shutdowns, which put a serious pinch on supply.
I think prices will actually follow historic trends and drop below 3 bucks nationally for the summer. Triple A thinks so, too.

Sounds like you are in California. Am I right? That being the case, it is entirely possible that gas could top $4 a gallon if a refinery goes down or maybe a hurricane hits the gulf coast again. It doesn't have to be a Katrina level disaster. Just one that shuts things down for a week or two.

OK, i could by this when Katrina nailed the rigs in the Gulf, I could deal with it when we didn't have any control for the oil in the middle east. OK, now we are there in the middle east, we have some say, the rigs in the gulf are up and running. Why did it go down, and now go up. But oddly enough, BP showed a profit of 150+%..........Now these folks are screwing us. Guess its getting close to elections, and we need to line there pockets so they can bribe another candidate.

Expect the $4.00 and then some. Now think about this, SHIPPING COST. Every load I haul in my truck cost roughly $265.00 more than it did 2 years ago, due to increased fuel cost . Now that's "per load" think of big stores shipping 900 to a thousand loads a day. Guess who's going to pay for the increased cost of shipping. So now how much is that gas costing you?

Sorry to say but it's getting pretty close to $4.00 in some places. I stay in Illinois and our highest price of gas is $3.29. I went to MSN gas today and it said the highest price in the Us is $4.12 in Mendocino,CA. The summer hasn't begin and the prices are getting higher and higher. I decided that it's time to take public transportation.

most likely yes and I bet you it's only going to get worse for the next few years unless someone finds a way somehow or discovers another way of getting more oil, either that or hydrids become more in vogue in america, which I believe is the more likely answer.Do I smell horse manure near by,perhaps

I would tell you gas won't go higher than $ 4.00 a gallon, but if it does, then I'll be a liar...so I won't. Just be thankful it's only $ 3.19..at some places you'll pay nearly $ 4.00 already!!
