Hi, I was just wondering do you get two weeks liberty after boot camp in the navy to visit with friends and family before "A" school? Also, do females have to cut their hair to about neck length? Oh, and another thing, I've been having a lot of people tell me that "A" school for ITs is in Great Lakes. Then a lot are telling me it's in Pensacola, FL. Sorry for all the questions, but my recruiter is one of the confused ones about the location. Thanks in advance.

I have currently been in the NAVY now for a little over 2 years. For the liberty after boot camp that is a big negative. some divisions (like myself) will ship out to there appropriate A school the day of graduation besides that the others will ship out within a week. The IT "A" school was in Pensacola it is now located on the other side of base at Great Lakes. Hope this helps. Oh and they will cut your hair to about shoulder length or a little less.

Anything over 3 days would be considered leave. We got 2 days of liberty after boot camp. As for the location of IT 'A' school, you'd be better off getting your information from an official source, if you signed up to be an IT, your enlistment contract, or the annexes to that contract should have the location listed, unless of course they change it before you attend A school. Pensacola doesn't sound right though. As far as I know, EW's and CT's, well now I guess EW's are CT's have their A school in Pensacola, along with some aviation rates. I think your A school would most likely be in Great Lakes, I think RM, A school, the rate now known as IT used to be in San Diego, but since they closed both NTC Orlando and NTC San Diego, most A schools are in Great Lakes.

I graduated Navy boot camp back in 96 and all the guys that had family or friends there got to leave no problem. I know they they were wearing civillian clothes too. This was pre 9-11 though and I have heard that a lot has changed since then, can't imagine wearing civillian clothes to be a security risk though. I don't think that anyone was able to spend the night away though the first few nights. I remember graduating and leaving the boot camp side of the base and moving to the school side of the base right away. Be prepared for a long and boring graduation ceremony, I couldn't wait until it was over. It was always my understanding too that sailors had to finish their "A" school before going to BUDS training at Coronado.

chances are, NO Leave will be authorized at all. In fact, you could even be a Grad N Go, which means immediately after PIR you would be on a bus to the airport to your A school. The most you will get is a couple of days, no way will you get two weeks. you won't have earned enough Leave by then.

IT A school was moved to Great Lakes after the Hurricane, but they began moving classes back to Pensacola a few months ago.

I'm not sure where IT school is, but when I got out of boot camp I had a weekend off but I still had to muster every night at the barracks. But I had some friends that left right after graduation to go to their A schools. Also if you don't cut your hair before you go they will do it anyway and it is pretty short.

There is no 2 week vacation after boot camp. You will need to go to your "A" school a couple days later. And yes, women need to cut their hair to neck lenght. As far as where is "A", maybe someone here answering your question will know...Good luck.
