Rockefeller, it's cleaner, and Times square is, in my opinion, not worth all the hype. Go see a musical or a play but then go back to relax in Rockefeller Center. Have a great trip!

Depends on what makes it "better" for you.
Time Square has the advantage of having multple subway lines converging there which makes it easier to get to other destinations in the city.
The subways are so convenient that you can stay for a lot less money away from Midtown. Just get near a good subway stop. The last hotel that we stayed at was two blocks from the NY Stock Excange. Since it was the weekend, their prices were very low. It was one block from a subway stop. Very convenient.

Simply for the intense energy level, Times Square. Also if you are staying in that area, you could get a look at all of those lights flashing everywhere without being scared. The Rock is okay, you have St. Pat's Cathederal, Radio City Music Hall, but nothing like Times Square.

I would say neither, stay a little further south - even in the Union Square area - rates are cheaper and its less noisy.

Not necessarily better, but it would be easier getting around in Times Square.

They are in the same area of midtown. About 8 block apart at the furthest.

there is no real difference. They basically touch anyway (depending of where you define their borders)
