ice cream! :) fruit salad, preferably nothing with seeds or seeds removed. mashed potatoes with skins and a little lumpy. find a childhood favorite dish of hers and modify it if needed to accomodate sore chops. don't forget to give her a kiss on the cheek (non-sore side), and tell her you'll make her whatever she wants when her mouth is better (another excuse for a BBQ?)

What a great mom. I guess you mean she was having company for a bbq? Just go on over and help her out, or let her sit and relax with her guests (or her family if it's just her family) and do the cooking.. whatever she was planning. Just keep it simple, and all will understand.
There are so many nice things you could fix. Some baked beans
or some sort of cold pasta salad, with elbows (or tri-colored pasta), apples, walnuts, cucumber, celery, shredded carrots. Add tuna or crumble up some fresh cooked salmon (I guess you could used canned, but I wouldn't), or nice shrimp. Make a honey mustard dressing (or your dressing of choice) to go with it. This salad can be a meal, or a nice side dish. The fish makes it a more hearty dish, and something a little different from a regular salad.

Wrap a banana in foil and cook on bbq. When ready open and serve with ice cream. Or put some marshmellows on kebab sticks and grill very quickly over heat and serve.

My favorite was a mashed potato bake. Just whip up mashed potatoes, put them in a baking dish, top with cheese and bake. That, and the broth from hot and sour soup. There's something about the heat that numbs the poor gums!

She needs something soft like a nice omelette with cheese/mushrooms/tomato and the inside of a jacket potato.
Don't give her anything too hot or sharp as the cavity will be sore .
