i have asked sooo many questions on how to calm down my puppy and how to get him over his seperation anxiety. I have tried all suggestions and he is still at it. Today was the worse i tried the ignoring one i was doing house work and he was going on and on the whole time. Then i tried the coins in the can and he wags his tail and joins in by barking. So other thatn paying loads on trainers is there anything anyone can suggest? I play with him take him on walks to wear him out to sit stay tricks for the mind all that, im out of ideas. My only hope his the little man will calm down when he gets older orrr will all this get worse and worse? Please help, i am going nuts!!!

You can not do "the ignoring thing" if you are not up to it fully. When you ignore a dog for barking, howling, whining, or anything else he does for attention (that he use to get attention from before) the behavior would at first intensify - meaning it would either be longer, louder, and lead to other behaviors to try and get ur attention. However, once u cave in and go towards the dog and try the coins and the can or to say "quiet" etc - any form of attention - then you are reinforcing his elevated form of behavior - so he learns that if I do this behavior more, my owner will come to me. Furthermore, less say one day you give him attention, the next day you ignore, then the next day you give him attention - you are then reinforcing intermittently thus strengthening the behavior even more. I would say unless you are prepared for all sorts of ruckus produced by your dog, do not do the ignoring thing or you would cause his behavior to strengthen.

Is he in a crate while he is barking and carrying on?
Puppies do calm down, they calm down easier if they are kept active and tired :)
If you are feeding one of the crappy foods with the high sugar content, this will make him more energetic, so will puppy foods with high protein levels.
You don't say how old, if he is crate trained, etc..
Separation anxiety is sometimes caused because a dog has full run of the house.. It's too overwhelming for some dogs to guard everything.. A crate or a smaller room is a better idea. Start slow going away for short periods, slowly staying away longer. He needs to realize that you are coming back..
When you leave, don't make a huge fuss, don't even say good bye.. Just crate him and leave. He is maybe picking up on your emotions and thoughts and you are the one upsetting him each time you leave.
Edit : Oh when you are talking those designer breed/mixed breed deals, there is no way of knowing.. He might always be like this.. They don't breed for temperament, only for colour or other outward appearances that attract the money paying people.. Call the breeder you got the dog from and ask if the rest of the litter is acting nervous and high strung..
Don't buy a 2nd dog.. If you don't like what the first one is doing, can't train it, can't stand the whining and barking, adding to that will only create more noise, and stress.. Forget the playmate, fix the first one first...

You just may have a puppy forever. I have three dogs. Two of them, a 9 year old Rat Terrier, a 4 1/2 year old Beagle have calmed downed. The 4 year old Pit Bull I don't think ever will. She still acts like she did when she first came home. Going to be a puppy for ever.

pomapoo? another word for a mixbreed that cost alot of money?
Seperation anxiety can be fixed by not making a big deal out of leaving or coming home. Try ignoring her till she is sitting when you come home. If you have already tried that... Puppys also usualy calm down after getting fixed.. and calm down more when they get older. Also, It is important to treat any dog like its a dog. Alot of people treat their dogs like people, and it causes all sorts of problems

Hopefully you are crate training. Trainers are not that expensive. We paid $40 per visit with ours and that was only once a week. You didn't mention how old the dog was. Puppies are puppies and should calm down a little at about 1 year.

your puppy *WILL* calm down when he gets older.
but what you need to do to calm him down now and even when he's older is walk him for at lest 45 minutes in the morning and then agen later on in the day for about 20 minutes. also obedient training is very inmpartent so he will respect you. you can take him to a obedients class for about 75 $. you and him will just go once a week for about 6 weeks
they will teach him to *sit* *stay* *come* *lay down* *heel* and even help whith house training.

Is your dog fixed? They say dogs calm down after being fixed - less racing hormones! Anything under a year is normal for "neurotic dog" behavior. My friend's lab puppy is still crazy at a year old.

Haha. This is why I don't like puppies.
I took care of a puppy for a weekend one time, and I could NEVER get her to calm down. I didn't get any sleep either.
Man, that was a nightmare. Good luck.

your pup will calm down when it gets a little older . but you can also give him a pal to play with they can wrestle each other and keep each other company. it would be like growing up with out a brother or sister.
