Real Simple. Your not drafted, coached in High School or Little League, or get a scholarship from a major university.
You go in your garage, build a car, and compete with the best in your area. Your an average American who loves to race and spend every red cent you have to do it. If your fortunate enough to get to the big time you did it by yourself. Not colleges and weight rooms and influential friends.
As for the fans, they watched you race at the local tracks for years and watched your career grow, they followed your rise through the series and remember you where once just the hometown boy racing on Saturday and Sunday nights. Then having a few beers in the pits with the fans.
Big Kenseth fan here. Watched him race every Sunday at Slinger Speedway. Booed him every Sunday. Then would pass him up in the pits and talk to Robbie Reiser or someone else instead. But made a point that if he made it to Cup. I'd be his biggest fan.
It's more than just a circle my friend

Actually, it's questions like this that are pointless. I suppose that you could control one of those cars, travelling 190 mph in extremly high heat (no, they do not have air conditioners). And if you think the participants are dumb, think again. In order to keep those cars running or diagnose the problems they have to be great mechanics, as well as know a good bit of chemestry(ie, fuel mixtures, how much of an effect the temp of the track will have on the tires and the tire pressure ect.) If you don't like it that is your right but don't come in hear and bash people who do when you clearly know nothing about it.

There is plenty of excitement in NASCAR. There are the wrecks, the fights, the pit stops, whos leading, whos a lap down, whos the lucky dog, and everything and who has the better car, among tons of other things. I mean NASCAR isnt for some people but there are more people who like it thne dont. Thats why we have racetracks in practically every state well not for NASCAR but for Busch, Truck, IRL, Arca and all those other leagues so there are lots of tracks and tahst why its so popular.

Well, lets see-there were more fans attending the race at Texas this year that there was attending the SuperBowl. Also more in attendance than the World Series in baseball. So, I would have to say that there are a lot of fans. I can understand you being a girl and not liking Nascar but then again this is one girl that really understands the sport and has been behind the scenes and can truthfully say that Nascar is one of the most American, family sports around. Look at each driver and see who donates his time or money to any charitable organization and compare them to other sports. Get the GIST!!!!

You know, I used to think the same thing, until I started watching it. I picked a driver(smoke) and just started paying attention to how everything worked. I cant live without it now, its great. I watch everything on speed so I cant understand how the cars work on different tracks, and learn all the terms, so I know what the commentators are talking about. And then you start to see how your driver does every week, its fun. I am going to the Texas race in Nov, my first offical race to attend. I went to the Busch race last Nov in Texas, but never to a nextel race. I am excited. Once you start watching, your hooked.

To those of us that live racing, your question is ignorant. It is about the drivers and how they handle the cars, whether the are running at peak, or a piece of crap, how the drivers do waht they do is the point. Racing is no more pointless than anyother sport...everyone has the right to choose, if you don't like it dont watch

You do not have to hate it. Just say it is not for you. There is a whole lot more than going in circles. But if you dont want to hear about it, that is fine. We respect your freedom to watch what you like.
I just wish everyone would stop calling NASCAR fans rednecks. 25 years ago, ok... most fans were. But not today, things are a lot different.

A lot of people don't get why so many people watch it, they don't understand how you can watch it for 4 hours. But different sports are for different people, I hate all sports but for NASCAR.

why are you on the NASCAR question spot if you don't like it?
may be you're denying it, and you really do like Nascar. come on admit it.
If you didn't like Nascar, you wouldn't have came to the Nascar question area.
I myself didn't like nascar until i actually say it. see deep inside i did like it, but never watched it, until last year. i've been hooked ever since.
Go!!! Tony Stewart Go!!!
