I've never managed to get past the begats without a nap.

However, it's an important book, even for agnostics such as myself, because it's had a huge influence on Western civilization. Someday I'll try again to read it, concurrently with Asimov's Guide, which makes it more understandable & interesting. Also I think Charleton Heston has recorded a CD of the Bible (or at least parts of it).

Not a sleeping pill. More a complete joke.

There are actually people about who believe that it is the literal truth.

They still believe that the world was created by 'god' some 6,000 years ago in about a week.

They still believe that 'Noah' built some massive ship which was so large that it managed to hold every single living creature in the world within its hull.

They still believe that some deluded hippy called Jesus walked on water and performed 'miracles'.

In reallity, of course, the church is just a secret club full of paedophiles and child molesters.

The sooner the bible is consigned to the dustbin of history the better for all of us.

If I asked you to read out of this 2000 page childrens book I am holding written in the CHINESE language, you probably could not. If I asked my 8 year old chinese daughter to read it she could with no problem. WHY? Because she was born into the family. Jesus said "unless a man be 'born again' he cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven." Are you? Don't wait, find out now if you will be going there.

A funnny quote for a cartoon...but not realistic.
That Book has inspired enough action to fill many other books....so hardly a soporific.

That's funny...
God's word is alive and active
sharper than a double edge sword
cuts through bones and marrow
straight to heart of a man
it accomplishes all it sets out to do...

If you're not into reading who begat who, it's a little slow in some spots.

But it's got lying, sex, betrayal, genocide, murder, homosexuality, incest - and that's just from gods chosen people !!

Not to mention talking bushes, talking animals, zombies

It's a hoot !!

Somewhere in Springfield Ned Flanders is praying for you!

:D

And no, it's not. It's kind of like War and Peace: a little daunting but it has something for everyone in there. You just have to read it to find it.

You need someone to instruct you on the meanings and history behind the stories...they then become fascinating and very relevant to modern life too!
