Fords have always had odd fuel gauges. In the old days they'd vary by as much as a quarter of a tank due to the antiquated intrument voltage regulator. Usually if you are in dire straghts for petrol a yellow light comes on.

No theory why Evelyn the changed dogs has were given a thumbs down for saying it would want to't have something to do with the gas gauge. I fairly agree - the gas gauge is not any more desirable than a reveal and neither the gauge nor the sensor has something to do with no matter if the motor works acceptable or no longer. I actually have had 2 mondeos and the purely "kangarooing" mission I had surely grew to develop into out to be the electronics contained in the motor administration black field.

There is a dampening feature of the gauge to stop it swinging around when driving. When you turned off the ignition it allowed the gauge to get the actual level when you turned the ignition back on.
There is generally a 5 litre+ margin of fuel after it hits the bottom of the gauge.

I do not know of any manufacturer who guarantees the accuracy of a fuel gauge.

Most documentation I have read says that they are an indication only.
