Certain people hate Jeff Gordon because they cannot admit to themselves that their driver cannot hold a candle to Gordon's talent or accomplishments. Jeff Gordon is one of the all-time great drivers. Unless Dale Earnhardt, Jr. wins a bunch more races and several championships, he cannot even be considered an all-time great driver.
Lets take a look at the statistics!
Wins:
Jeff Gordon - 77
Dale, Sr. - 76
Dale, Jr. - 17
Winning Percentage:
Jeff Gordon - 15.98%
Dale, Sr. - 11.2%
Dale, Jr. - 6.44%
Cup Championships:
Jeff Gordon - 4
Dale, Sr. - 7
Dale, Jr. - 0
(Dale, Sr. also has six second place championship finishes)
Most wins in a season years:
Jeff Gordon - 6
Dale, Sr. - 2
Dale, Jr. - 0
All-time poles:
Jeff Gordon- 56
Dale, Sr. - 22
Dale, Jr. - 6
I know some of these statistics are a bit unfair to Jr. He only has 264 career starts compared to Gordon's 482 and Sr.'s 675. The give him something to shoot for, though. But if Jeff Gordon quit tomorrow, Dale Earnhardt, Jr. would have to win 60 times in his next 224 starts to equal Gordon's current accomplishments. That works out to 27% of the races over the course of about six seasons. I like Jr., but I do not think he has that in him.
I will give you the fact that Dale, Jr. is a popular driver, but so is Kasey Kahne (7 wins in 117 starts, 5.98%). Jr. is probably the most popular driver of all-time. Dale, Sr. did not make commercials. He did not even let them put an in-car camera in his car until late in his career. Jeff Gordon has made a few commercials. I think that part of Jr.'s popularity is because his likeness is plastered everywhere from TV to my local convenience store, where I have purchased products that he sells.
Popularity and making commercials do not a winning driver make. When it gets down to winning races, my money was on Dale Earnhardt (before he needed to be called Sr.) and is on Jeff Gordon now.
All of you that hate Jeff Gordon because he is great should give it a rest! Love your driver for what he is--an extremely popular racer, son of a great NASCAR legend, sponsored by one of the greatest brands in the world--and quit throwing beer cans and verbal slurs at Gordon.

First of all I am the biggest Jeff Gordon fan. The only reason people hate Jeff Gordon is because he is good and at the time was the only person who could challenge and beat Dale Earnhardt week in and week out. They were the two superstars in the sport in the 1990's so just like the Boston RedSox and New York Yankee rivalry there is going to be a rivalry created amongst the fans of either team. As most intelligent people know, Jeff and Dale Sr. were business partners and the first people in Nascar to have their signatures copyrighted. Back before Earnhardt's death, the Gordon vs. Earnhardt rivalry was good, clean fun. Post Earnhardt's death, the old Earnhardt fans have tried to gel together with the new younger generation of Earnhardt Jr. fans. The new Jr. fans come into the sport and see there is a rivalry with the old Earnhardt fans and Gordon fans so they think it is alright to disrespect Jeff Gordon and Nascar. The newer fans just don't have the same loyalty to the sport as the long time fan does. In my own personal opinion, one should have to pass a Nascar IQ test to get tickets to a race because some people think that Nascar is a joke so they disrespect it. It disgusts me to see how low humans can sink.

Listen, Gordon is hated by a lot of people who call themselves fans because for years & years, the south pretty had Nascar all to themselves and the drivers would come up thru local tracks. Jeff Gordon (from California) broke into the scene and was the FIRST so-called young gun and he was winning, winning poles, and had no southern accent. Just the fact that he didn't say "y'all" really p'd off a lot of old timers. Earnhardt didnt like him at first but grew to like AND respect him. Jeff Gordon is a great racer. When other kids at 15, 16 yrs old were sneaking cigs behind the garage or vegging out on video games, he was racing midgets on ESPN TV and winning championships. Some redneck fans thought Jeff threatened "their" sport and the Nascar heritage but as it turned out these idiots that throw stuff at him are the sports worst enemy, and they dont even know it. If he was gay we would know it. Do you think a person like him can hide anything these days in this media? I have always liked Jeff and always will and I dont care if he has a rainbow or a picture od two guys doing 69 painted on his car!(well, that may be a bit much..ha) but a Rainbow shouldnt scare people. By the way the rainbow has been off the car for years now. And so what if he was gay? Is Jeff Burton Gay? How about Mike Bliss? As long as the gay guy isnt penetrating your bunghole with his greasy axle, who gives a crap? Truth is Dale Sr did like Jeff, and enjoyed racing him because Gordon is THAT good.

Hey, BroncosFan... just curious... Re: Jeff Gordon... when did California become a "northern" state? That "good ol' boy" from the south reason for hating Jeff is old and lame.
As to answering the question, There are as many reasons to hate one driver, love one driver, hate another driver, love another driver, as there are NASCAR fans. You'll never get a concensus, but that's part of the "fun."
As for being a Gordon hater, I'm not, so I can't answer that last question.

I do not dislike the man as a driver,in fact as the driver of the #1 Baby Ruth Ford Thunderbird in the Busch series I really was a big fan.
When anounced he was going to cup that was great, but then some politics and legal suites insued and Gordon's contract with Ford was ruled null and void, next day signed with Hendricks.
Once again as a driver one of the top 5 of all time but politically questions.

Nothing! I have a ten year old Jeff Gordon 1/64th(Hot Wheels size) rookie Sprint Car(not Sprint Cup...but sprint car) that isn't worth but $10 to somebody unopened on a mint card.(packaging) Atleast I can open it up and play with it someday. Can't do that with a trading card.

You can't get past the numbers. The man can drive. 77 wins, at this time, 4 championships, and near the top in money made every year. He can drive a race car, well.
And yet...I will never "pull" for a Hendrick built car. I don't car if its Johnson, Busch, Gordon, or Jr. subbing for them. Why? Maybe because I don't want anyone to beat my favorites. Or maybe because I don't identify with their sponsors.
Its the nature of sports. The player can one of the best, ie: Kobe Bryant, and I can't stand to look at that guy. Why? Who cares its sport and not a real measure of life.

I don't have anything against either Dale but SOME of their fans are not very knowledgable about racing or it's history. Gordon is hated so much because of his dominance and the fact that he is not from the south.

Earnhardt wrecked more people that Gordon ever has...and he did it on purpose. The only reason those people hate him is because they know he is a better driver than junior, and they know he is comparable to junior's dad.
Also, calling Gordon gay because of his rainbow Dupont car? Are you forgetting that Earnhardt Sr's first car he raced was PINK?

Just another reason Earnhardt JR fans hate Gordon.
Gordon, who has 77 wins, can pass Cale Yarborough (83), and Bobby Allison and Darrell Waltrip (tied at 84) in three years if he maintains his average of 3.5 wins a season.
Also Gordon haters...look up how many wins it took Earnhardt to get 76 wins vs how many it took Gordon. Do your homework.
