My friends mother is an alcoholic. I'm a little irate because the family doesn't do anything about it. They'll yell at her when she's intoxicated but the next day everything will be fine. She's rude to me and my friend doesn't even trust his own mother anymore because of all the lies. I know there's not much I can do but does anyone have any advice for me??

You can check out a few places to help you with her alcoholism. I would suggest Allenon.

People have to hit bottom before fixing their problem. I would suggest letting the person continue to drink until they choose to stop. The only thing you can do is to take care of yourself.

You can not help an alcoholic untill they want to be helped. As for your friends yelling at her about it they are only adding fuel to the fire especially if everything is alright with it the next day. They have to be firm and let her know they are not going to put up with it anymore. She will either get help or decide drinking is more important. But if she is not ready for help all the yelling, counselling,in the world will not help. It is a long road to recovery and she will need all the help she can get from her family.

There is not much you can do................its her who has to want to do something for herself. She probably blames the family for causing her to drink so much. They should not yell at her. That might explain why she is rude to you.
Avoid the whole thing if you can. Pity your friend doesn't trust his own Mother though.

You cant force someone to quit, they have got to want to quit for them-self, my brother is also a alcoholic, I have went to AA meetings with him, and do all i can to support him, Try and see if maybe she would like to go to a AA meeting and tell her you will go with her and support her, support goes a long way with a alcoholic. And just being there for them.good luck
