I recently posted a question and it was deleted. I can only presume that this happened because I included the word "penis" in the title. I did this because is was a penis question and I am a adult so I use the correct term. If I had used "pinkle" instead, half of you wouldn't have known what I was talking about, would you? So, the question is, is the word penis offensive?

Just to clarify. I used it in reference to the chap who cut his own off in a London restaurant a few days ago. There are actually about three people here who do find it offensive. (I wonder if they are a bit repressed?).

To me no, it's a scientific term, a name for a part of the body, calling it anything else would be childish, however, it depends upon the context that it is used and the person reading the passage. For instance, if you say "penis breathe", what does that mean? I won't go into it, for it could be taken different ways. People perceive things differently, so I am unable to give you a definitive answer to your Penis question. Some people have some sort of phobia when it comes to anything pertaining to reproduction (sex!) and find it offensive. Not sure why, maybe they are inept in that area and self conscious??

I am interested in hearing your original question. I can imagine that a lot of younger children/youth are on here as well as parents. Perhaps there was an extravagent mom on here protecting her children. As a mother of young children, I can see somebody doing that, although I would not. My son knows what a penis is, but I try not to teach them too young because I've known of three year olds singing "the penis song" during church. Although humorous, I would have hated to be that child's mom. Embarrassing. So, my theory is that either you had an extremist parent, or the way you put your question was more vulgar than necessary. We may never know. I do not find penis offensive.

No, if you don't use it in a crude way then of course it's not offensive. Are you sure your question got deleted or did it just never show up? Sometimes, when you ask a question, the question doesn't show up on the answer page. This is because Yahoo has a list of words that they compiled and if a question contains any one of these certain words then the question will automatically not show up. It will then go into reviewing for the Yahoo Answers team to check. It's pretty stupid because most of the words in the list could be used for a genuine, not offensive question.

If they deleted the question because of the word penis they are immature. Yes this is an open community to the public and yes some children may look upon its pages, but that is all the more reason to use the appropriate term and get them on the right track so that as they age they will not look ignorant....
So no i don't find the term offensive.

The word Penis is not offensive at all but if you indulged the word with unwanted sexual activities then of course it is offensive otherwise it is just the name of particular body part.

Not at all, you have to use the correct term after all. What can we do if even the medical term is considered offensive? Just point?

Good question. The word shouldn't be offensive. It is part of the male anatomy. However, many people try to use it in an offensive way. Those people are jerks that usually crave attention.

It depends on the context you use it in. Thats all. If you were aksing a serious 'penis' related question, it should not have been deleted.
