Normally you don't file them at the same time. The extension form is usually due by April 15th - April 17th this year because of a weekend and a holiday. If you haven't already filed the extension then it's too late and your tax return is past due.

IRS usually has two different filing addresses for each part of the country - one if you're sending them a tax payment and a different one if you're sending a return with no payment.

There would be no reason to put a return and an extension in the same envelope. If filed by the filing deadline, the extension isn't needed, and if filed after the filing deadline, the extension is useless.

If you haven't file an extension yet, don't bother; it's too late.
