Another Question::
How Big, or Small, is a 'Moment'?

((Note:: I asked this a few days ago, and only got 3 answers. Hoping to get more today. I love the plethora of answers!))

(Cool, I was hoping this would happen. I'll just let everyone else answer for me. ;-)
I've been searching all week for a good demonstration of the collective consciousness/group mind in action.
I've decided to use the group of people who answered this very question. My answer is everyone elses words spoken as one voice.

The length of time of a spiritual "Moment" is not something one thinks of during the experience of that Moment.
Somewhere between a jot and a jiffy.
To me a moment is neither big, nor small. It just is.
The "essence" is perceptual, just depends on how well you perceive things...
The " now " has no bounds of moments in time.
How can I do that without a clock, or an hour glass or an egg timer?
Perhaps the essence of a moment depends on what is going on in the moment....
unless women applying makeup is involved, then a moment is approximately 3 hours 15 minutes 12 seconds.
Now, I can play in time, but my mistake was I took time to be real, and it is unreal.
A "moment in time" is a concept empty of inherent existence just like all other concepts and is changing and impermanent.
In that "Moment" we connect to all that is Eternal, and time has little meaning to us.
How can experiencing of essence be contained by bounds of time?
where time constantly cuts off eternity and eternity constantly pierces time.
there is so much in eternity that eternity needs to stretch it's self out, God is simply stretching. Ha, ha.
to the rest of us it was only a blink of an eye, but for him, time stopped altogether,
That is what the moment is...infinitely big, infinitesimally small, because it touches eternity.
I choose to live everyone one like it may be my last.
It doesn't work cause my wife keeps asking, " aren't you done yet?".

Time does not really exist...hence there is no " how big or small ". The " moment " simply is. You used the word " essence ". Essence is as perfume, the nature of, substance / flavor of . . . How can experiencing of essence be contained by bounds of time? Essence is more of a 'wave' of moment(s).

To experience a ' moment ' is to experience being in the Now. The " now " has no bounds of moments in time.

The length of time of a spiritual "Moment" is not something one thinks of during the experience of that Moment. It is only afterwards that we wonder why we can't feel it more often, and all the time.

In that "Moment" we connect to all that is Eternal, and time has little meaning to us. We seek to fill our lives with that Eternal Moment, until the concept of time and mortality no longer has any power to cause anxiety. In that Moment we are truly free.

I drop the moment into the ocean of the eternal now, this alone is, this is the thus come one. I do not label it, nor put concepts on it, here in this place I stand alone, hello myself, how are you? Now, I can play in time, but my mistake was I took time to be real, and it is unreal. A quote, "eternity is in love with the productions of time". But I see it more like this, there is so much in eternity that eternity needs to stretch it's self out, God is simply stretching. Ha, ha. ~ : )

I would go along the lines with Mumof4, with this addition:

Soren Kierkegaard defined The Moment as the point where Eternity intersects with Time:

"The moment is that ambiguous place where time and eternity touch each other, and here the concept of Temporality is set, where time constantly cuts off eternity and eternity constantly pierces time."

That is what the moment is...infinitely big, infinitesimally small, because it touches eternity.

How can I do that without a clock, or an hour glass or an egg timer? I have already tried that by saying one mississippi, two etc. It doesn't work cause my wife keeps asking, " aren't you done yet?". Or was that in bed? Smiles -

To me a moment is neither big, nor small. It just is. I choose to live everyone one like it may be my last. For even more information, read the Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. I have heard it is a Very good read, and it will really enlighten your mind.

hm..... Perhaps the essence of a moment depends on what is going on in the moment.... Like when the main character in the movie "Big Fish" spotted his true love for the first time....it was a moment...It was, for lack of a better word, "full"...to the rest of us it was only a blink of an eye, but for him, time stopped altogether, it was only him, and his love, in a bubble in time.....
